A new Thylakoid model is presented, which describes in detail the electron/proton transfer reactions between membrane protein complexes including photosystems II and I (PSII, PSI), cytochrome (Cyt) b f, mobile plastoquinone PQ pool in the thylakoid membrane, plastocyanin in lumen and ferredoxin in stroma, reduction of NADP via FNR and cyclic electron transfer. The Thylakoid model parameters were fitted both to Chl fluorescence induction data (FI) and oxido-reductions of P700 (ΔA ) measured from 20 μs up to 20 s in pea leaves. The two-wave kinetics of FI and ΔA (O(JI)PSM and OABCDE) were described quantitatively, provided that the values of membrane electrochemical potential components ΔΨ(t), pH(t)/pH(t) are in physiologically relevant ranges.

1. In vitro metabolism of Tanzisertib [(1S,4R)-4-(9-((S)tetrahydrofuran-3-yl)-8-(2,4,6-trifluorophenylamino)-9H-purin-2-ylamino) cyclohexanol], a potent, selective c-Jun amino-terminal kinase (JNK) inhibitor, was investigated in mouse, rat, rabbit, dog, monkey and human hepatocytes over 4 h. The extent of metabolism of [(14)C]tanzisertib was variable, with <10% metabolized in dog and human, <20% metabolized in rabbit and monkey and >75% metabolized in rat and mouse.

The UDP-glucose pyrophosphorylase from Giardia lamblia is redox regulated and exhibits promiscuity to use galactose-1-phosphate.

Biochim Biophys Acta

January 2015

Instituto de Agrobiotecnología del Litoral (UNL-CONICET), Facultad de Bioquímica y Ciencias Biológicas, Ciudad Universitaria, Paraje "El Pozo" CC 242, S3000ZAA Santa Fe, Argentina. Electronic address:

Background: Giardia lamblia is a pathogen of humans and other vertebrates. The synthesis of glycogen and of structural oligo and polysaccharides critically determine the parasite's capacity for survival and pathogenicity. These characteristics establish that UDP-glucose is a relevant metabolite, as it is a main substrate to initiate varied carbohydrate metabolic routes.

Understanding the FMN cofactor chemistry within the Anabaena Flavodoxin environment.

Biochim Biophys Acta

December 2012

Departamento de Bioquímica y Biología Molecular y Celular, Facultad de Ciencias, Universidad de Zaragoza, 50009, Zaragoza, Spain.

The chemical versatility of flavin cofactors within the flavoprotein environment allows them to play main roles in the bioenergetics of all type of organisms, particularly in energy transformation processes such as photosynthesis or oxidative phosphorylation. Despite the large diversity of properties shown by flavoproteins and of the biological processes in which they are involved, only two flavin cofactors, FMN and FAD (both derived from the 7,8-dimethyl-10-(1'-D-ribityl)-isoalloxazine), are usually found in these proteins. Using theoretical and experimental approaches we have carried out an evaluation of the effects introduced upon substituting the 7- and/or 8-methyls of the isoalloxazine ring in the chemical and oxido-reduction properties of the different atoms of the ring on free flavins and on the photosynthetic Anabaena Flavodoxin (a flavoprotein that replaces Ferredoxin as electron carrier from Photosystem I to Ferredoxin-NADP(+) reductase).

Biotransformation of natural compounds. Oxido-reduction of Sch-642305 by Aspergillus ochraceus ATCC 1009.

Bioorg Med Chem Lett

April 2011

Centre de Recherche de Gif, Institut de Chimie des Substances Naturelles, C.N.R.S., Avenue de la Terrasse, 91198 Gif-sur-Yvette Cedex, France.

Sch-642305 is the major compound produced by the endophytic fungi Phomopsis sp. CMU-LMA. Incubation of Sch-642305 with Aspergillus ochraceus ATCC 1009 resting cells leads to three new derivatives through an oxido-reduction of the six-membered ring of the molecule.
