Beta-adrenergic antagonist L-alprenolol was labelled for radioactivity and UV fluorescence, and the binding to intact cultured chicken brain cells under equilibrium conditions, as the model of the experiments in vivo, was probed. The application of fluorescent label did not explore any cell type or cell particle with enhanced binding. The analysis of the radiolabelled alprenolol-binding revealed a non-specific accumulation on the surface of these cells, which was inhibited by unlabelled alprenolol excess, however, this is the peculiarity of the specific binding. Our results emphasize that for the characterization of membrane receptors of intact cells, the accurate separation of specific and non-specific binding is required. The application of a ligand concentration as low as possible and a very effective washing procedure for the removal of the unbound (and the bulk of the nonspecifically bound) label is recommended.

Glioblastomas (GBMs) are the most common and aggressive brain tumors, with a poor prognosis. Effective preclinical models are crucial to investigate GBM biology and develop novel treatments. Syngeneic models, which consist in injecting murine GBM cells into mice with a similar genetic background, offer reproducibility, cost-effectiveness, and an intact immune system, making them ideal for immunotherapy research.

Public acceptance of genetically modified crops engineered with (Bt) insecticidal protein genes (BT-GMCs), which confer resistance to various lepidopteran insect pests, is generally lacking. As a major concern over BT-GMCs is the allergenicity of insecticidal proteins, alleviating safety concerns should help increase public acceptance. In this study, three lepidopteran-specific Bt toxins, Cry1Aa, Cy1Ab, and Cry1Ac, were treated with simulated digestive fluids under various conditions.

Purpose: A human model able to simulate the manifestation of corneal endothelium decompensation could be advantageous for wound healing and future cell therapy assessment. The study aimed to establish an ex vivo human cornea endothelium wound model where endothelium function can be evaluated by measuring corneal thickness changes.
Methods: The human cornea was maintained in an artificial anterior chamber, with a continuous culture medium infusion system designed to sustain corneal endothelium and epithelium simultaneously.

is a ubiquitous pathogenic fungus that causes blue mold decay of apple fruit postharvest, and another member of the genus, , is a well-studied saprophyte valued for antibiotic and small molecule production. While these two fungi have been investigated individually, a recent discovery revealed that can block mediated decay of apple fruit. To shed light on this observation, we conducted a comparative genomic, transcriptomic, and metabolomic study of two (404 and 413) and two (Pe21 and R19) isolates.

Background: The recovery of injured peripheral nerves relies on angiogenesis, where newly formed blood vessels act as pathways guiding Schwann cells across the wound to support axon regeneration. While some research has examined this process, the specific mechanisms of angiogenesis in peripheral nerve healing remain unclear. In vitro models are vital tools to investigate these mechanisms; however, no current in vitro culture methods exist for isolating vascular cells, such as endothelial cells (ECs) and pericytes, specifically from sciatic nerves.
