Patients with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia (ADRD) are faced with a formidable challenge of focal amyloid deposits and cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA). The treatment of amyloid deposits in ADRD by targeting only oxidative stress, inflammation and hyperlipidemia has not yielded significant positive clinical outcomes. The chronic high-fat diet (HFD), or gut dysbiosis, is one of the major contributors of ADRD in part by disrupted transport, epigenetic DNMT1 and the folate 1-carbon metabolism (FOCM) cycle, i.

Strontium-rich mineral water (strontium > 0.20 mg/L) is the second largest type of mineral water on commercial drinking water market. Exposure to high levels of strontium through drinking water or soil may interfere with calcium metabolism and increase the risk of cardiovascular and skeletal diseases, but no in-depth mechanism has been disclosed to date.

College of Food Science and Engineering, Bohai University, Jinzhou, 121013, PR China; National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center of Storage, Processing and Safety Control Technology for Fresh Agricultural and Aquatic Products, Jinzhou, 121013, PR China. Electronic address:

'Zaosu' pear fruit is prone to yellowing of the surface and softening of the flesh after harvest. This work was performed to assess the influences of L-glutamate treatment on the quality of 'Zaosu' pears and elucidate the underlying mechanisms involved. Results demonstrated that L-glutamate immersion reduced ethylene release, respiratory intensity, weight loss, brightness (L*), redness (a*), yellowness (b*), and total coloration difference (ΔE); enhanced ascorbic acid, soluble solids, and soluble sugar contents; maintained chlorophyll content and flesh firmness of pears.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a multifactorial neurodegenerative disease that lacks convenient and accessible peripheral blood diagnostic markers and effective drugs. Metabolic dysfunction is one of AD risk factors, which leaded to alterations of various metabolites in the body. Pathological changes of the brain can be reflected in blood metabolites that are expected to explain the disease mechanisms or be candidate biomarkers.

Metabolomic analysis of hydroxycinnamic acid inhibition on Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Appl Microbiol Biotechnol

January 2024

State Key Laboratory of Biobased Material and Green Papermaking, Qilu University of Technology, Shandong Academy of Sciences, Jinan, 250353, China.

Ferulic acid (FA) and p-coumaric acid (p-CA) are hydroxycinnamic acid inhibitors that are mainly produced during the pretreatment of lignocellulose. To date, the inhibitory mechanism of hydroxycinnamic acid compounds on Saccharomyces cerevisiae has not been fully elucidated. In this study, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to investigate the changes in S.
