Background: The combination of local therapy with lenvatinib and programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) inhibitors represents an emerging treatment paradigm for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC). Our study sought to investigate the interrelationship between gut microbiota and intratumoral microbiota in the context of triple therapy, with a view to identifying potential biological markers.
Methods: The gut microbial community profiles of patients with primary untreated hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and those treated with local therapy combined with lenvatinib and PD-1 inhibitors were analyzed by 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing.

Historical redlining practices in the United States date back to the 1930s and have continued to impact cities socially, environmentally, and economically since then. Purpose: Among patients with angle-closure glaucoma, it is common to have a short-axial eye, which also makes it difficult to select an appropriate intraocular lens. Previous studies have focused on the ocular biometry of the long-axial eye, whereas only a few reports have focused on the short-axial eye. This study aimed to clarify the characteristics of the short-axial eye on ocular biometry among the elderly Japanese.

Beyond directed evolution, ancestral sequence reconstruction (ASR) has emerged as a powerful strategy for engineering proteins with superior functional properties. Herein, we harnessed ASR to uncover robust PET hydrolase variants, expanding the repertoire of PET-degrading enzymes and providing deeper insights into the underlying mechanisms of PET hydrolysis. As a result, ASR1-PETase, featuring a unique cysteine catalytic site, was discovered.

Objectives: Trauma-induced coagulopathy (TIC) can be fatal but preventable if recognised early. With emerging uses of rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM) to guide transfusions in trauma, patient outcomes with TIC-defined by initial ROTEM and conventional coagulation tests (CCTs) during massive haemorrhage protocol (MHP) activations were evaluated at a primary trauma centre in British Columbia.
Methods: This retrospective observational study included adult trauma patients requiring MHP from June 1, 2020, to May 31, 2022.
