Background And Aim: Stent placement for biliary drainage in patients with malignant hilar biliary obstruction (MHBO) has been a topic of long-standing debate, and the best approach remains controversial. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and removability of multi-hole fully covered self-expandable metal stents (MH-FCSEMSs) in a preclinical experiment using swine hilar bile duct obstruction (HBDO) models and to assess the feasibility and safety of stent placement in patients with MHBO.

Methods: Three minipigs underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)-guided endobiliary-radio frequency ablation (EB-RFA) to establish Bismuth type II hilar bile duct stenosis models.

Background: Most breast cancers are detected at an early stage in which case conservative surgery is indicated. An accurate preoperative localization technique is essential for conservative surgery of non-palpable breast lesions. Currently, the gold standard technique is wire localization (WL).

College of Medical Technology, Zibo Vocational Institute, Zibo, Shandong Province 255300, China; Center of Translational Medicine, Zibo Central Hospital, Zibo, Shandong Province 255036, China. Electronic address:

Background: P-element-induced wimpy testis (PIWI) proteins bind to PIWI-interactingRNAs (piRNAs) to form the piRNA/PIWI complex, which affects protein regulation. PIWIL4, a member of the PIWI family, has been demonstrated in recent studies to promote the migration of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cell line MDA-MB-231. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying cell migration remain obscure.

Purpose: We present a case of transmuscular migration of a solid encircling silicone band through all four rectus muscles.

Observations: A 33-year-old male with high myopia presented with a progressively worsening subclinical peripheral rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in his left eye. An encircling silicone band (#240) was placed anterior to the equator, and 5-0 polyester sutures (Ethicon, Inc.

Worsening spasticity due to catheter breakage during intrathecal baclofen therapy: a case report.

J Med Case Rep

January 2025

Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Graduate School of Medicine, Kanazawa University, 13-1 Takara-machi, Kanazawa City, Ishikawa, 920-8641, Japan.

Background: Intrathecal baclofen therapy can substantially improve symptoms in patients with severe spasticity owing to traumatic spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, cerebral paresis, or tethered cord syndrome. Problems associated with intrathecal catheters include migration, laceration, occlusion, or disconnection. Several case reports have described the management of catheter fragments.
