Radiologic and prognostic aspects of Wilms' tumour.

Acta Radiol Diagn (Stockh)

Published: January 1982

Retrospectively the urographic findings, history, clinical signs and surgical/pathologic features of 46 Wilms' tumours were analysed. Imparied or no function of the kidney was associated with a high incidence of defects of the renal pelvis and invasion of the renal vein. A high rate of non-radically operated or inoperable tumours and high mortality was present in these cases.

Opportunistic assessment of steatotic liver disease in lung cancer screening eligible individuals.

J Intern Med

January 2025

Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (AIM) Program, Mass General Brigham, Harvard Medical School, Harvard Institutes of Medicine (HIM), Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Background: Steatotic liver disease (SLD) is a potentially reversible condition but often goes unnoticed with the risk for end-stage liver disease.

Purpose: To opportunistically estimate SLD on lung screening chest computed tomography (CT) and investigate its prognostic value in heavy smokers participating in the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST).

Material And Methods: We used a deep learning model to segment the liver on non-contrast-enhanced chest CT scans of 19,774 NLST participants (age 61.

Integrated Genomics Reveal Potential Resistance Mechanisms of PANoptosis-Associated Genes in Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Mol Carcinog

January 2025

Institute of Precision Medicine, The First Affiliated Hospital; Department of Pediatrics, The Seventh Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is marked by the proliferation of abnormal myeloid progenitor cells in the bone marrow and blood, leading to low cure rates despite new drug approvals from 2017 to 2018. Current therapies often fail due to the emergence of drug resistance mechanisms, such as those involving anti-apoptotic pathways and immune evasion, highlighting an urgent need for novel approaches to overcome these limitations. Programmed cell death (PCD) is crucial for tissue homeostasis, with PANoptosis-a form of PCD integrating pyroptosis, apoptosis, and necroptosis-recently identified.

Background: Elevated levels of carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) levels are known to worsen outcomes in various tumors by influencing immune responses. However, the role of CA19-9 in immunotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains poorly understood.

Methods: This study included 621 patients treated with anti-PD-1/PD-L1 treatment at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from January 2017 to March 2023.

Extensive congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM) of the left fetal lung and associated marked dextroposition of the fetal heart were noted at 21 weeks' gestation. The right fetal lung appeared compressed with the cardiomediastinal shift angle measuring approximately 20 degrees. Potential subsequent right pulmonary hypoplasia was considered.

A Machine Learning Model for Predicting Prognosis in HCC Patients With Diabetes After TACE.

J Hepatocell Carcinoma

January 2025

Department of Radiology, Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, Hubei Province, 430022, People's Republic of China.

Purpose: Type II diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has been found to increase the mortality of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Therefore, this study aimed to establish and validate a machine learning-based explainable prediction model of prognosis in patients with HCC and T2DM undergoing transarterial chemoembolization (TACE).

Patients And Methods: The prediction model was developed using data from the derivation cohort comprising patients from three medical centers, followed by external validation utilizing patient data extracted from another center.
