Endoglycosidase H is one of a large number of enzymes secreted by Streptomyces plicatus and other Streptomyces species. When the structural gene for this enzyme is introduced into Escherichia coli attached to the plasmid pBR-322 or Charon 4 phage, the enzyme is synthesized and is found in the periplasmic space, culture medium, and cells. Attachment of the UV-5 lac promoter to a site in the plasmid adjacent to the Streptomyces insert stimulates enzyme synthesis as much as 100-fold. This result demonstrates that transcription of the Streptomyces gene can be initiated from sequences outside of the Streptomyces insert. Initiation of transcription on a Streptomyces promoter is also a suggested but unproven possibility. In contrast to the situation in Streptomyces, where the enzyme has a molecular weight of 27,000, the enzyme made in E. coli has a molecular weight of approximately 30,000. Possible explanations for this difference in size are lack of cleavage of the Streptomyces secretion "signal sequence" in E. coli or protein "processing" by enzymes secreted into the medium by STreptomyces.

Owing to the massive refractory lignocellulose and leachate-organic loads, the stabilization of municipal solid waste (MSW) landfill is often prolonged, resulting in environmental burdens. Herein, various assembled multifunctional microbial inoculums (MMIs) were introduced into the semi-aerobic bioreactor landfill (SABL) to investigate the bioaugmentation impacts. Compared to control (CK) and other MMIs treatments (G1-G3), LD + LT + DM inoculation (G4) significantly increased volatile solids degradation (9.

To overtake competitors, microbes produce and secrete secondary metabolites that kill neighbouring cells and sequester nutrients. This metabolite-mediated competition probably evolved in complex microbial communities in the presence of viral pathogens. We therefore hypothesized that microbes secrete natural products that make competitors sensitive to phage infection.

Biosynthesized nanoparticles have a variety of applications, and microorganisms are considered one of the most ideal sources for the synthesis of green nanoparticles. Icerya aegyptiaca (Douglas) is a pest that has many generations per year and can affect 123 plant species from 49 families by absorbing sap from bark, forming honeydew, causing sooty mold, and attracting invasive ant species, leading to significant agricultural losses. The purpose of this work was to synthesize titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO-NPs) from marine actinobacteria and evaluate their insecticidal effects on Icerya aegyptiaca (Hemiptera: Monophlebidae), in addition to explaining their effects on protein electrophoresis analysis of SDS‒PAGE proteins from control and treated insects after 24, 72 and 120 h of exposure.

Fifteen new aliphatic metabolites, 2-methylpyrimidin-4(3H)-ones (1,2), 2-methoxy-2-methyl-1,2-dihydro-3H-pyrrol-3-ones (4a/4b, 5a/5b), butyrolactones (6-9), and aliphatic metabolites (16-20) as well as known pyridin-2(1H)-one (3) and butyrolactone analogues (10-15) were obtained from the fermentation broth of Streptomyces antifungus isolated from the forest soil sample collected in Tengchong, China. Pyrimidin-4(3H)-one derivatives (1, 2) with an individual 2-methylpyrimidin-4(3H)-one skeleton is a kind of rarely reported compound and were firstly obtained from natural source. The structures of the new metabolites were elucidated by comprehensive spectroscopic analysis including data from experimental and calculated ECD spectra as well as Mosher's reagent derivative method.

Ascomycin (FK520) is a 23-membered macrolide antibiotic primarily produced by the Streptomyces hygroscopicus var. ascomyceticus. Structurally similar to tacrolimus and rapamycin, it serves as an effective immunosuppressant widely used in the treatment of rejection reactions after organ transplantation and certain autoimmune diseases.
