Serum and secretory antibody levels against 3 types of parainfluenza virus were determined in persons ranging in age from 1 month to 74 years. With a slight decline in the group of 7 months to 2 years of children, the number of positive findings increased with age, reaching maximum in the groups of 16-24 years [types 1 and 2] and 25-74 years [type 3] old persons. Nasal secretory antibodies against parainfluenza type 3 virus were detected in all age categories, the highest number of positive findings occurred in the group of 16-24 years old persons. Secretory antibodies against type 2 virus were detected also in all age groups, but the number of positive findings was considerably lower. Secretory antibodies against type 1 virus were detectable in persons over 5 years of age, with a maximum in the age category of 16-24 years. The percentage of positive persons with antibody to type 1 virus was the lowest.

Background: HER2-targeted therapies have revolutionized the treatment of HER2-positive breast cancer patients, leading to significant improvements in tumor response rates and survival. However, resistance and incomplete response remain considerable challenges. Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibition is a novel therapeutic strategy for the management of dyslipidemia by enhancing the clearance of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol receptors, however recent evidence also shows links between PCSK9 and cancer cells.

Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), the world has suffered significant losses. At present, the pneumonia disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus has not been eliminated, and SARS-CoV-2 has a high mutation rate, and its variant strains also have a high prevalence rate, which has always threatened the health of all mankind. This study aims to develop a rapid and sensitive method to complement existing SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic tools by utilizing surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) for the direct detection of the intrinsic SERS signal from the S proteins of SARS-CoV-2 and its variants (Omicron and Delta) within 5 min using a portable Raman spectrometer.

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), a fatal disease in cats caused by feline infectious peritonitis virus (FIPV), has limited treatment options and lacks effective vaccines. Cepharanthine (CEP), a natural isoquinoline alkaloid, possesses many medicinal properties, including antiviral activities. However, the role of CEP in management of FIPV infection remains poorly understood.

The recurrent global exposure to highly challenging viral epidemics, and the still limited spectrum of effective pharmacological options step on the accelerator towards the development of new antiviral medicines. In this work we explored the anti-SARS-CoV-2 potential of a recently launched chiral ring system based on the uracil scaffold fused to carbocycle rings. The asymmetric synthesis of two generations of chiral uracil-based compounds (overall 31 different products), and their in vitro cytotoxicity and antiviral screening against wild-type SARS-CoV-2 in U87.

Caspase family proteases and Toll/interleukin-1 receptor (TIR)-domain proteins have central roles in innate immunity and regulated cell death in humans. We describe a bacterial immune system comprising both a caspase-like protease and a TIR-domain protein. We found that the TIR protein, once it recognizes phage invasion, produces the previously unknown immune signaling molecule adenosine 5'-diphosphate-cyclo[N7:1'']-ribose (N7-cADPR).
