Learning Curve of Microsurgical Anastomosis: Training for Resident Education.

J Am Acad Orthop Surg

January 2025

From the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dankook University Hospital, Dankook University College of Medicine, Cheonan, South Korea.

Background: Acquiring microsurgical anastomosis skills requires considerable time and effort. Moreover, appropriate and systematic training for acquiring microsurgical anastomosis skills is lacking. Therefore, this study investigated the learning curve for acquiring microsurgical anastomosis techniques among orthopaedic surgery residents.

Purpose: Fetal nucleated red blood cells (fNRBCs) in the peripheral blood of pregnant women contain comprehensive fetal genetic information, making them an ideal target for non-invasive prenatal diagnosis (NIPD). However, challenges in identifying, enriching, and detecting fNRBCs limit their diagnostic potential.

Methods: To overcome these obstacles, we developed a novel biomimetic chip, replicating the micro-nano structure of red rose petals on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS).

Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of mortality, necessitating advancements in cardiac tissue engineering platforms for improved disease modeling, drug screening, and regenerative therapies. The chief challenge to recapitulating the beating behavior of cardiomyocytes is creation of the circular stress profile experienced by hollow organs in the natural heart due to filling pressure and integrated strategies for intercellular communication to promote cell-to-cell connections. We present a platform featuring addressable arrays of nanogrooved polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) diaphragms for cell alignment and circular mechanical stimulation, with embedded silver nanowires (AgNWs) for electrical cues, so that cardiomyocyte functionality can be assessed under these synergistic influences.

In this manuscript, an efficient self-reinforcing technology-solid hot drawing (SHD) technology-was combined with green processing supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO) foaming technology to promote poly (l-lactic acid) (PLLA) to form an oriented micropore structure. In addition, Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), with a high affinity of CO and biological safety, was introduced to enhance the nucleation effect in SC-CO foaming and co-regulate the uniformity of oriented micropores' structure. The results showed that orientation induced PLLA crystallization, so the tensile strength was improved; the maximum tensile strength of the oriented micropores' PLLA reached 151.

Association between metabolic and bariatric surgery and malignancy: a systematic review, meta-analysis, trends, and conclusions.

Surg Obes Relat Dis

October 2024

Department of Surgery A, Soroka University Medical Center, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer-Sheva, Israel; The Department of Public Health, Faculty of Health Sciences, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer-Sheva, Israel. Electronic address:

Background: Conflicting studies have investigated the association between obesity, metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS), and cancer.

Objectives: Our study aimed at elucidating the trends in cancer incidence that are related to obesity and weight loss managed through MBSs, like Colo-rectal, breast, uterine, and esophageal cancer.

Setting: We conducted a search using PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library electronic databases through May 2020.
