During electric stimulation of the aortal reflexogenic zone in rabbits, administration of L-DOPA prevented the reduction of the level of cyclic adenosine-3',5'-monophosphate (cAMP) in the cardiac muscle and blood plasma. This is likely to be related to L-DOPA ability to participate in the biosynthesis of endogenous catecholamines, and thus to stimulate the synthesis of cAMP.
