A case of malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the maxillary sinus, which to our knowledge is the third such report, involved a patient who was seen initially with nasal obstruction, swelling of the face, and visual disturbances. Three months after partial excision of the tumor and radiotherapy and chemotherapy, the patient died of bone and liver metastases. These tumors usually manifest initially with symptoms directly referable to the involved sinus. If there is any evidence of metastatic disease, the prognosis appears to be poor.

Triangular Margin: Reliable Imaging Feature of Fibrous Dysplasia in Long Bones?

J Comput Assist Tomogr

January 2025

Department of Radiology, Division of Musculoskeletal Imaging and Intervention, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA.

Objective: To determine the utility of a triangular margin as an imaging diagnostic feature for fibrous dysplasia.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all surgically biopsied or managed benign and malignant bone tumors by a single orthopedic oncologist over 19 years (2003 to 2022). A musculoskeletal radiologist and an orthopedic oncologist, both with >10 years of experience, retrospectively evaluated all imaging in consensus.

The World Health Organization has confirmed that asbestos fibres are carcinogenic, claiming that asbestos-related diseases should be eradicated worldwide. Actinolite, amosite, anthophyllite, chrysotile, crocidolite, and tremolite are regulated asbestiform mineral phases. However, in nature, asbestos minerals occur either in a fibrous and asbestiform (original morphology characterized by high length-to-width ratio and provided of high tensile strength and flexibility) or fibrous but not asbestiform appearance.

Gene fusions involving JAZF1 are a recurrent event in low grade endometrial stromal sarcoma, and have been more recently described in few instances of endometrial stromal sarcoma-like tumors in the genitourinary tract of men. In this article, we describe a previously unreported spindle cell sarcoma harboring an in-frame JAZF1::NUDT5 gene fusion, arising in the chest wall of a 51-year-old man. The tumor had unique morphologic features resembling both endometrial stromal sarcoma and endometrial stromal sarcoma-like tumors, consisting of a mixture of cytologically bland and pleomorphic spindle cells with brisk mitotic activity, within an alternating myxoid and fibrous stroma.

Early diagnosis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is challenging because of its depth, which often leads to misdiagnosis during ultrasound examinations. The unique PDAC tumor microenvironment (TME) is characterized by significant fibrous tissue growth, and high interstitial pressure hinders drug penetration into tumors. Additionally, hypoxia and immune suppression within the tumor contribute to poor responses to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, ultimately leading to an unfavorable prognosis.
