Plant lectin receptor-like kinases (LecRLKs) are plant membrane protein receptor kinases. Lectin-like receptor kinases play a crucial role in regulating plant growth, development, and responses to environmental stimuli. It can rapidly respond to both biotic and abiotic stresses while mediating mechanisms of plant immune responses.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is characterized by dysregulated T cell immunity and skin microbiome dysbiosis with predominance of Staphylococcus aureus, which is associated with exacerbating AD skin inflammation. Specific glycosylation patterns of S. aureus cell wall structures amplify skin inflammation through interaction with Langerhans cells (LCs).

The retromer is a highly conserved eukaryotic complex formed by the cargo selective complex (CSC) and the sorting nexin (SNX) dimer subcomplexes. Its function is protein recycling and recovery from the endosomes to conduct the target molecules to the trans-Golgi network or the plasma membrane. The protozoan responsible for human amoebiasis, , exhibits an active membrane movement and voracious phagocytosis, events in which the retromer may be fully involved.

Recently, we reported that a recombinant Tepary bean () lectin (rTBL-1) induces apoptosis in colon cancer cell lines and that cytotoxicity was related to differential recognition of β1-6 branched -glycans. Sequencing analysis and resolution of the rTBL-1 3D structure suggest that glycan specificity could be strongly influenced by two arginine residues, R103 and R130, located in the carbohydrate binding pocket. The aim of this work was to determine the contribution of these residues towards cytotoxic activity.

Sialic acid, a negatively charged nine-carbon monosaccharide, is mainly located at the terminal end of glycan chains on glycoproteins and glycolipids of cell surface and most secreted proteins. Elevated levels of sialylated glycans have been known as a hallmark in numerous cancers. As a result, sialic acid acts as a useful and accessible cancer biomarker for early cancer detection and monitoring the disease development during cancer treatment which is crucial in elevating the survival rate.
