Changes in the profile of two glycolytic enzymes, phosphofructokinase and pyruvate kinase, in different regions of rat brain were studied under alloxan-induced diabetes. A regional variation of the effect of diabetes on brain was noted - the cerebral hemispheres and cerebellum showed decreased activity of the enzymes, while the brain stem remained relatively unaffected. The changes in enzyme activities in the brain regions were more pronounced at the early days of diabetes, particularly at 8 days. Insulin administration to the diabetic animals restored the activity of the enzymes. The results indicate a regionally variable effect of diabetes on the two key glycolytic enzymes, and bring out a role of insulin in the regulation of brain glycolysis.

Background: Clostridium thermocellum is a promising candidate for production of cellulosic biofuels, however, its final product titer is too low for commercial application, and this may be due to thermodynamic limitations in glycolysis. Previous studies in this organism have revealed a metabolic bottleneck at the phosphofructokinase (PFK) reaction in glycolysis. In the wild-type organism, this reaction uses pyrophosphate (PP) as an energy cofactor, which is thermodynamically less favorable compared to reactions that use ATP as a cofactor.

Immune priming confers a sustained, augmented response of innate immune cells to a secondary challenge, a process that is characteristically reliant on metabolic reprogramming. Recent evidence suggests that histone demethylases play essential roles in the immune priming, while its regulation role in the metabolic reprogramming remains largely unknown. In the present study, the concentration of glucose was significantly down-regulated in the hemocytes of crab after secondary stimulation with , while the expression levels of phosphofructokinase (PFK) pyruvate kinase (PK), hexokinase-2 (HK-2) and Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD), along with the concentrations of lactate and the ratio of NAD/NADH, were elevated.

Chilling stress seriously affects the growth and yield of tomato. Anthocyanin is a typical chilling-induced metabolite with strong antioxidant activity and photoprotective capacity. Here, we found that anthocyanin was also involved in ascorbic acid biosynthesis and glycolysis under chilling stress.

This experiment aimed to explore the effects of flavonoids in (FFAI) on carcass traits, meat quality, and the antioxidant capacity of finishing pigs. The results indicated that the addition of an appropriate amount of FFAI into their diet could significantly reduce the backfat thickness and perirenal fat percentage of finishing pigs, as well as the drip loss, water-holding capacity, shear force, and the levels of lactate, glucose-6-phosphate, glucose, ATP, phosphofructokinase, and pyruvate in the longissimus dorsi (LD) muscle. It also elevated the levels of flavor amino acids such as glutamate, serine, and threonine, and enriched the composition of flavor substances, including benzene and octanal, which significantly contributed to the enhancement of pork flavor.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterized for the persistent inflammation. The brain and muscle arnt-like 1 (BMAL1), as a crucial clock gene, is associated with the expression level of upstream factor hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1α in glycolysis, which may affect the occurrence of inflammatory reactions in COPD. However, the moderation effect of Qibai Pingfei Capsule (QBPF) capsule is still unknown on BMAL1 and HIF-1α/glycolytic pathway.
