Tumour cells of a patient with T-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia had surface (E+, OKT3+, OKT4+, OKT8-, SIg-, Ia-) and cytochemical (properties positive reaction to acid phosphatase, acid nonspecific esterase and negative reaction to terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase) specific for T-helper lymphocytes. They had no activity of NK and K-cells, reacted weakly to mitogens (PHA, Con A, PWM) and allogenic cells. Con A and PWM stimulated synthesis of specific receptors (OKT3 and OKT4) on the surface of malignant cells, whereas PHA decreased the amount of above receptors.

Background And Aim: The reports from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries suggest that camels suffer less compared to goats, sheep, and cows from a number of common infectious diseases in Oman. However, there is no immunological evidence to substantiate this claim. This present study is, therefore, an attempt to study the immunological responses of camels, goats, sheep, and cows by comparing their oxidative respiratory burst of peripheral blood leukocytes (PBLs) as a marker of innate immunity occurring during phagocytosis and the mitogenic responses of their peripheral blood mononuclear leukocytes (PBMLs) as a marker of their adaptive immune response.

The establishment of a panel of immune markers is of paramount importance to understand the different transcription patterns of infectious diseases in livestock. The array of commercially available immunological assays for cattle and sheep is currently limited, due to the lack of antibodies for these species. Even though SYBR Green based real time quantitative PCR (qPCR) is the most commonly used method to study cytokine transcription in ruminants, a lack of standardization impairs its implementation in the study of different ruminant diseases.

The synthesis of new analogues of cyclolinopeptide A (CLA) and their linear precursors modified with (R)- and (S)-4-methylpseudoproline in the Pro-Pro fragment are presented. The peptides were tested in comparison with cyclosporine A (CsA) in concanavalin A (Con A) and pokeweed mitogen (PWM)-induced mouse splenocyte proliferation and in secondary humoral immune response in vitro to sheep erythrocytes (SRBC). Their effects on expression of selected signaling molecules in the Jurkat T cell line were also determined.

Background: Interferon-gamma release assays (IGRAs) are blood tests used to measure the amount of interferon-γ (IFN-γ) released by T lymphocytes after stimulation by antigens specific for the diagnosis of latent tuberculosis infection. A mitogen serves as a positive control to assess the immune function in IGRAs.
Methods: This in vitro study was conducted to evaluate IFN-γ production by human whole blood stimulated with heat-treated and/or cation-supplemented phytohemagglutinin (PHA), concanavalin A (Con A) and pokeweed mitogen (PWM), using QuantiFERON-TB Gold Kit ELISA tests.
