A novel promising approach to the treatment of anovulatory infertility has been investigated during the last few years. Pulsatile long-term subcutaneous administration of low doses of LH-RH given by means of small portable computerized infusion pumps has proved to be practical, safe and effective for induction of follicular maturation and ovulation in women with amenorrhoea due to inadequate pituitary gonadotrophin secretion.

Complications of twin pregnancy such as twin anemia-polycythemia sequence (TAPS), which involve placental anastomotic vessels, occur mostly in monochorionic diamniotic twins and they have rarely been reported in dichorionic diamniotic (DD) twins. Here, we report a case of DD twins diagnosed with TAPS with fetal hydrops caused by fetal anemia at 28 weeks, which resolved spontaneously during pregnancy. A 37-year-old pregnant woman was referred to our hospital because of a twin pregnancy at 13 weeks.

Effect of galanin-like peptide on hypothalamic kisspeptin expression in female Zucker fatty rats.

Neurosci Lett

January 2025

Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology, Graduate School of Medicine, Nippon Medical School, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo 113-8602, Japan.

Kisspeptin and galanin-like peptide (GALP) neurons in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus (ARC) are involved in gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) neuron-mediated pulsatile luteinizing hormone (LH) secretion. Zucker fatty (ZF) rats display a leptin receptor gene abnormality and suppressed pulsatile LH secretion. ZF rats reportedly exhibit low hypothalamic GALP and kisspeptin expression, and GALP administration induces LH release in ZF rats.

TREATMENT OF EARLY-ONSET FETAL GROWTH RESTRICTION WITH LOW MOLECULAR WEIGHT HEPARIN DOES NOT PROLONG GESTATION: A RANDOMIZED CLINICAL TRIAL.

Am J Obstet Gynecol

November 2024

Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, BCNatal, Barcelona, Spain; Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu, Esplugues de Llobregat, Spain; Primary Care Interventions to Prevent Maternal and Child Chronic Diseases of Perinatal and Developmental Origin Network (RICORS), RD21/0012/0003, Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Madrid, Spain; Facultat de Medicina i Ciències de la Salut, Universitat de Barcelona, Spain.

Background: Although there is a biological basis for it, there is scarce evidence on the effect of heparin in ameliorating placental insufficiency and maximizing gestational age at delivery among fetal growth restriction (FGR) pregnancies.

Objective: To explore the effectiveness of treatment using low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) at a prophylactic dose started at the time of diagnosis in prolonging gestation in pregnancies with early-onset fetal growth restriction (FGR).

Study Design: This was a phase III, multicenter, triple-blind, parallel-arm randomized clinical trial conducted in two university hospitals in Spain.

Current attempts to implement and apply automated control systems for the management of glucose homeostasis in individuals with diabetes are partly successful. In most semi and closed loop control systems to mimic the action of a normal pancreas in diabetes patients, insulin is administered subcutaneously. However, the parameters for insulin diffusion and transport time constants are relatively large and have wide individual variations.

Article Synopsis
  • - Hemorrhage is the main cause of preventable death in trauma situations, leading to military and civilian advancements in medical practices, particularly through the use of tourniquets to manage extremity bleeding and save lives.
  • - While tourniquets have significantly decreased deaths from bleeding in military settings, noncompressible hemorrhage still poses a major risk, especially before patients receive definitive medical care.
  • - The study explores using a small, disposable pressure monitor during resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) to enhance blood pressure monitoring, facilitate better resuscitation practices, and reduce the need for blood products in extreme environments.
