The occurrence of PGM1 phenotypes in 589 samples from the population of Padua was investigated by ultrathin-layer isoelectric focusing. All ten phenotypes were observed. Frequencies of the PGM1 alleles (1+ = 0.6180; 1- = 0.1163; 2+ = 0.2122; 2- = 0.0535) have been compared to those found in other populations.

Electrically conductive membranes (ECMs) were prepared by coating porous ethylenediamine-modified polyacrylonitrile (PAN-EDA) UF membranes with an ultrathin layer of platinum (Pt) nanoparticles through magnetron sputtering. These ECMs were used in electrofiltration to study the removal of brilliant blue dye from an aqueous solution under positive electrical potentials (0-2.5 V).

A high level of genetic purity in crop varieties must be achieved and maintained for agronomic performance, encouraging investment and innovation in plant breeding and ensuring that the improvements in productivity and quality imparted by breeders are delivered to the consumer. Since the success of hybrid seed production is dependent upon the genetic purity of the parental lines, in this study, the experimental F1 maize hybrid and its parental inbreeds were used as a model system to examine the discriminative power of morphological, biochemical and SSR markers for seed purity assay. The highest number of off-type plants was estimated by morphological markers.

A study on the photocatalytic degradation of contaminants (salicylic acid and stearic acid) on titanium dioxide films overcoated with a few monolayers of silica is presented herein. A rather uncommon situation was observed, where the presence of the thin silica layers decreased the degradation rate of stearic acid while increasing that of salicylic acid. The results were explained by addressing the effect in the presence of silica films on the desorption of the intermediate products formed in the degradation of salicylic acid.
