A 33-year-old man suffered bilateral perilunate dislocations with concomitant rotary subluxations of the navicular treated with open reduction and internal fixation. Anatomic studies revealed a thick V-shaped volar radio-carpal ligament one portion of which tethers the lunate to the radius in a sling with the volar ulna-carpal ligament, and the other portion with a variable insertion on either the navicular waist or the capitate, which may account for the variety of the carpus injuries that have been reported.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study assessed the effectiveness of different surgical procedures (single-stage, two-stage, and salvage) for treating chronic perilunate dislocations in 15 patients from 2013 to 2019, comparing their outcomes with prior literature.
  • - Out of the patients, 13 underwent open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF), while 2 required salvage procedures; the approach transitioned from single-stage to more complex two-stage procedures using external fixators for better results.
  • - Post-operative evaluations showed mixed outcomes, with some complications like nonunion and avascular necrosis occurring, and the mean scapholunate angle reflecting varying degrees of wrist extension and flexion.

Bilateral greater arc Perilunate injury: A case report.

Int J Surg Case Rep

December 2023

Department of Plastic Surgery, King Abdulaziz Medical City, Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Introduction: Perilunate injuries are rare and are frequently missed during initial examinations. These injuries are missed upon primary evaluation in approximately 25 % of cases, which can result in catastrophic outcomes. Early diagnosis is essential to avoid chronic wrist pain and limited range of motion.

Introduction: Perilunate dislocations are uncommon injuries requiring high-energy trauma. They are responsible for serious lesions that can compromise the function of the limb. We report a case of pure bilateral perilunate dislocation in a parachutist while landing.

Perilunate fracture-dislocation is rare. We report a case of a 17-year-old patient with an atypical dorsal perilunate dislocation with no scapholunate ligament injury and an associated contralateral radiocarpal fracture-dislocation. When the initial diagnostic is uncertain, in order not to delay the treatment, computed tomography scan is strongly recommended.

Trans-styloid, trans-hamate dorsal lunate dislocation: A case report.

Int J Surg Case Rep

July 2019

Presentation Of Case: We report a case of 55-year-old male who sustained a high-energy trauma; he was hit by a car while crossing the street.
