Eukaryotic Initiation Factor 4 (eIF4) is a group of factors that activates mRNA for translation and recruit 43S preinitiation complex (PIC) to the mRNA 5' end, forming the 48S PIC. The eIF4 factors include mRNA 5' cap-binding protein eIF4E, ATP-dependent RNA helicase eIF4A, and scaffold protein eIF4G, which anchors eIF4A and eIF4E. Another eIF4 factor, eIF4B, stimulates the RNA helicase activity of eIF4A and facilitates mRNA recruitment.

The budding yeast Xrn1 protein shuttles between the nucleus, where it stimulates transcription, and the cytoplasm, where it executes the major cytoplasmic mRNA decay. In the cytoplasm, apart from catalyzing 5'→3' decay onto non translated mRNAs, Xrn1 can follow the last translating ribosome to degrade the decapped mRNA template, a process known as "cotranslational mRNA decay". We have previously observed that the import of Xrn1 to the nucleus is required for efficient cytoplasmic mRNA decay.

Application prospect of polysaccharide in the development of vaccine adjuvants.

Department of Pharmacognosy and Utilization Key Laboratory of Northeast Plant Materials, School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shenyang Pharmaceutical University, Shenyang 110016, China. Electronic address:

Vaccination is an effective strategy for preventing infectious diseases. Subunit vaccines offer more precise targeting and safer protection compared with traditional inactivated virus vaccines. However, due to their poor immunogenicity, subunit vaccines necessitate the use of adjuvants to stimulate the immune system.

The fungus Beauveria felina is often classified as one of the so-called good biocontrol agents. However, no information is available about the growth of this entomopathogenic fungus in the presence of other endophytic fungi, which are usually found in plant tissues. Effects of fungal interactions vary from inhibiting the activity of a biocontrol agent to stimulating its effect on the targeted pathogen.

Transcription activators are said to stimulate gene expression by 'recruiting' coactivators, yet this vague term fits multiple kinetic models. To directly analyze the dynamics of activator-coactivator interactions, single-molecule microscopy was used to image promoter DNA, a transcription activator and the Spt-Ada-Gcn5 acetyltransferase (SAGA) complex within yeast nuclear extract. SAGA readily but transiently binds nucleosome-free DNA without an activator, while chromatin association occurs primarily when an activator is present.
