17 cloned cell lines of transformed mouse fibroblasts were used for the evaluation of a correlation between three traits of malignancy: cloning efficiency in semisolid medium (CE); cell dose inducing tumours in 50% of inoculated animals (TD50); degree of cell attachment to a substrate (RT50--rounding time for 50% of the cells under moderate cooling, 18 degrees C). It is shown that an increase in RT50 (better attachment of the cells to the substrate) is accompanied by a decrease in CE and an increase in TD50 (coefficients of rank correlation p = -0.76 and p = 0.58, respectively). A negative correlation between CE and TD50 was also revealed (p = -0.68). A certain increase in the percentage of cells containing actin filament bundles was found in cell clones better attached to the substrate. Mechanisms of disturbances in proliferation and attachment of malignant cells are discussed.

Unlabelled: Human noroviruses (HuNoVs) are the leading cause of acute gastroenteritis worldwide. Currently, there are no targeted antivirals for the treatment of HuNoV infection. Histo-blood group antigens (HBGAs) on the intestinal epithelium are cellular attachment factors for HuNoVs; molecules that block the binding of HuNoVs to HBGAs thus have the potential to be developed as antivirals.

Parasitoid elimination in involves special hemocytes, called lamellocytes, which encapsulate the eggs or larvae of the parasitoid wasps. The capsules are melanized, and metabolites of the melanization reaction may play a potential role in parasitoid killing. We have observed a variation in the melanization capacity of different, commonly used strains, such as Canton-S, Oregon-R, and BL5905, BL6326.

Bone is a dynamic tissue that serves several purposes in the human body, including storing calcium, forming blood cells, and protecting and supporting the body's organs. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is secreted into the circulation by osteoblasts, the cells responsible for making bone. It attaches to the surface of osteoblast cells or matrix vesicles.

This study provides a comprehensive investigation of antimicrobial additives (ZnO/AgNPs and SiO/AgNPs) on the properties of biodegradable ternary blends composed of poly(hydroxybutyrate) (PHB), poly(lactic acid) (PLA), and polycaprolactone (PCL) by examining the morphology, thermal stability, crystallinity index, and cell viability of these blends. Overall, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis revealed that AgNPs and SiO exhibited comparable sizes, whereas ZnO was significantly larger, which influences their release profiles and interactions with the blends. The addition of antimicrobials influences the rheology of the blends, acting as compatibilizers by reducing the intermolecular forces between biopolymers.

Proper adhesion of cells to their environment is essential for the normal functioning of single cells and multicellular organisms. To attach to the extracellular matrix (ECM), mammalian cells form integrin adhesion complexes consisting of many proteins that together link the ECM and the actin cytoskeleton. Similar to mammalian cells, the amoeboid cells of the protist Dictyostelium discoideum also use multiprotein adhesion complexes to control their attachment to the underlying surface.
