Severe bradycardia in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea and good early response to CPAP.

Sleep Breath

January 2025

Department of Cardiac and Vascular Diseases, Jagiellonian University Medical College, John Paul II Hospital, Prądnicka 80, Kraków, 31-202, Poland.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) may lead to heart rhythm abnormalities including bradycardia. Our aim was to ascertain clinical and echocardiographic parameters in patients with OSA in whom severe bradycardia was detected in an outpatient setting, as well as to evaluate the efficacy of CPAP therapy on heart rate normalization at the early stages of treatment.

Methods: Fifteen patients mild, moderate or severe OSA and concomitant bradycardia were enrolled.

Introduction: Cardiac computerized tomographic angiography (CCTA) is perceived as a non-invasive tool for assessment of coronary vessel anatomy. Feature tracking echocardiography has recently emerged as a tool for assessment of regional and global left ventricular function. We aimed to explore the applicability of echocardiographic strain on CCTA cine clips and assess whether global and regional strain parameters are associated with the extent of coronary stenosis.

Background: Advanced critical care echocardiography comprises a specific set of qualitative and quantitative point-of-care echocardiography skills, including a reliable, noninvasive method to measure cardiac output. This technique requires echocardiographic measurement of left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) diameter and LVOT velocity time integral (VTI). Although there is a demand among critical care fellows to learn these advanced techniques, there are no data describing the acquisition of mastery in these skills.
