The electrophoretic pattern of isoamylase in the serum, urine, pancreas, salivary gland, liver, and small intestine of the dog, pig, rat, hamster, and prairie dog was compared to man. Great species variation in isoamylase patterns was noted. These variations should be kept in mind when studying pancreatic disease in species other than man. It is of interest that the serum and urine isoamylase of the prairie dog was most similar to that of man.

Phosphoesterification is the only naturally occurring covalent starch modification identified to date, and it has a major impact on overall starch metabolism. The incorporation of phosphate groups mediated by dikinases [α-glucan, water dikinase (GWD), EC 2.7.

Mung bean starch is distinguished by its exceptional high amylose content and regulation of starch biosynthesis in leaves and storage tissues, such as seeds, share considerable similarities. Genetic engineering of starch composition and content, requires detailed knowledge of starch biosynthetic gene expression and enzymatic regulation. In this study we applied detailed transcriptomic analyses to unravel the global differential gene expression patterns in mung bean leaves and in seeds during various stages of development.

Several health benefits are obtained from resistant starch, also known as healthy starch. Enhancing resistant starch with genetic modification has huge commercial importance. The variation of resistant starch content is narrow in wheat, in relation to which limited improvement has been attained.

Most rhodophytes synthesize semi-amylopectin as a storage polysaccharide, whereas some species in the most primitive class (Cyanidiophyceae) make glycogen. To know the roles of isoamylases in semi-amylopectin synthesis, we investigated the effects of gene ( and )-deficiencies on semi-amylopectin molecular structure and starch granule morphology in (Cyanidiophyceae). Semi-amylopectin content in a -disruption mutant () was not significantly different from that in the control strain, while that in a -disruption mutant () was much lower than those in the control strain, suggesting that CMI294C is essential for semi-amylopectin synthesis.

Cyclic nigerosylnigerose (CNN) syrup, containing 76% water-soluble dietary fiber, was prepared from starch on an industrial scale, using isoamylase, 6-α-glucosyltransferase, 3-α-isomaltosyltransferase, and cyclodextrin glucanotransferase. CNN syrup has a unique linkage pattern, consisting mainly of α-1,3 and α-1,6 glucoside linkages, and is characterized by its low weight average molecular weight (807) and moderate sweetness (relative sweetness = 25), unlike in well-known dietary fiber materials. The glass transition temperature of CNN is higher than that of the straight chain structures, maltotetraose and maltosyltrehalose.
