The influence was studied of BaSO4 (i.p.) pretreatment on the mediator induced inflammatory responses: oedema formation, measured plethysmographically, increased vascular permeability to protein, measured by the extravascular accumulation of 125I-labeled albumin (125I-HSA) and vasodilatation, measured by the accumulation of 51Cr-labeled erythrocytes. Subplantar application of histamine, 5-hydroxytryptamine, bradykinin or prostaglandin E2 caused oedema formation, an enormous 125I-HSA accumulation and a relatively small 51Cr-labeled erythrocytes accumulation. BaSO4 pretreatment inhibited all these inflammatory responses to a high extent, while the alpha M-foetoprotein (alpha MFP) serum levels were increased from a normal value of 188 +/- 123 micrograms/ml up to 5200 +/- 2264 micrograms/ml (n = 29). From this study and previous data using purified alpha MFP it could be assumed that the anti-inflammatory effects induced by BaSO4 pretreatment are mediated by this enormous increase of the alpha MFP serum levels of alpha MFP are nonspecific and possibly caused by a coating and/or membrane stabilizing effect on cell membranes and/or endothelial junctions.

This study examined the effects of menstrual cycle phases and symptoms on match running performance in football (soccer) players. Twenty-one nonhormonal contraceptive using football players from four professional teams were monitored for up to four menstrual cycles during a domestic league season. Menstrual phases, classified as early-follicular phase (EFP), mid-late follicular phase (MFP), and luteal phase (LP), were determined by self-reporting of menstruation and urinary hormone tests (luteinizing hormone and pregnanediol-3-glucuronide).

BCL-w is a BCL-2 family protein that promotes cell survival in tissue- and disease-specific contexts. The canonical anti-apoptotic functionality of BCL-w is mediated by a surface groove that traps the BCL-2 homology 3 (BH3) α-helices of pro-apoptotic members, blocking cell death. A distinct N-terminal portion of BCL-w, termed the BCL-2 homology 4 (BH4) domain, selectively protects axons from paclitaxel-induced degeneration by modulating IP3 receptors, a noncanonical BCL-2 family target.

The ability of sponges to accumulate eDNA provides an exciting opportunity to reconstruct contemporary communities and ecosystems with high temporal and spatial precision. As a nutritious plant with valuable potential, the Moringa oleifera Lam. (MOL) leaf addition on Fuzhuan brick tea (FBT) for the co-fermentation (MOL-FBT) was an industry innovation and a new route to make full use of MOL leaf. After optimization of the extraction conditions, the best conditions for the polyphenols extraction method from MOL-FBT (MFP) were 60°C for 40 min (1:80, V/W) using response surface methodology.
