Optimal influenza immunization of individuals with malignancy and other immunodeficient states requires and understanding of responses to currently recommended regimens. Children with acute lymphocytic leukemia and other malignancies between three and 17 years of age were immunized with bivalent influenza vaccine containing A/New Jersey/76 and A/Victoria/75. Folowing a two-dose immunization schedule, only 37% (25468) on cancer chemotherapy seroconverted to a hemagglutination inhibition titer greater than or equal to 20 for A/NJ/76; the seroconversion rate in those not on chemotherapy was 92% (68/74, P less than 0.001). The immune response to the A/Vic/75 antigen was also related to a history of recent chemotherapy. There was no correlation between the immune response and the peripheral white blood cell count except at counts less than or equal to 1,000. The optimum time to immunize children with malignancies is when they have been off chemotherapy for one month and have peripheral white blood counts greater than 1,000.

Introduction: The aim of the study was to assess the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 in the Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina, after five waves of COVID-19 and 1 year after introduction of vaccination to better understand the true extent of the COVID-19 pandemic in the population of the Republika Srpska and role of vaccination in achieving herd immunity.
Methods: The population-based study was conducted from December 2021 to February 2022 in a group of 4463 individuals in the Republika Srpska. Total anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies were determined in serum specimens using the Wantai total antibody ELISA assay.

Objectives: Given the ongoing challenges regarding the specific roles of viral infections in cancer etiology, or as cancer co-morbidities, this study assessed potential associations between anti-viral, T-cell receptor (TCR) complementarity domain region-3 (CDR3s), and clinical outcomes for ovarian cancer.
Methods: TCR CDR3s were isolated from ovarian cancer specimens for a determination of which patients had anti-viral CDR3s and whether those patients had better or worse outcomes.
Results: Analyses revealed that patients with exact matches of anti-Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) CDR3 amino acid sequences exhibited better outcomes for both overall and disease-specific survival.

Influenza vaccine effectiveness and immunogenicity can be compromised with repeated vaccination. We assessed immunological markers in a cohort of healthcare workers (HCW) from six public hospitals around Australia during 2020-2021. Sera were collected pre-vaccination and ~14 and ~180 days post-vaccination and assessed in haemagglutination inhibition assay against egg-grown vaccine and equivalent cell-grown viruses.

Tobacco smoking is prevalent across the world and causes numerous diseases. Cigarette smoke (CS) compromises immunity, yet little is known of the components of CS that impact T cell function. MR1 is a ubiquitous molecule that presents bacterial metabolites to MAIT cells, which are highly abundant in the lungs.

The cytokine response arguably plays a central role in dictating the outcome of virus infection, balancing inflammation and healing, which is crucial to resolving infection without destructive immunopathologies.
Summary: Early innate immune responses are key to the generation of a beneficial or detrimental immune response.
