The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of cortisone on the behavior of serotonin metabolism indicators in experiments carried out in rabbits. The following parameters were determined: the level of serotonin (5-hydroxy-tryptamine), (5-HT) in liver tissue and blood, the activity of monoamino-oxidase (MAO) in liver tissue and serum, and the level of 5-hydroxy-indoloacetic acid (5-HIAA) in liver tissue and in 24-hour urine of 52 rabbits. The experimental model involved acute liver injury with carbon tetrachloride--CCl4 and the effect of exogenous cortisone on the behavior of the above-mentioned indicators. On the basis of the experimental findings the authors demonstrate a dependence of serotonin metabolism on the liver injury, and an absence of normalization of the estimated parameters after cortisone administration.

Unlabelled: Insulin resistance is major factor in the development of metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes (T2D). We extracted 430 genes from literature associated with both insulin resistance and inflammation. The highly significant pathways were Toll-like receptor signaling, PI3K-Akt signaling, cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction, pathways in cancer, TNF signaling, and NF-kappa B signaling.

Introduction: The mortality rate for liver cancer is extremely high but clinical treatments have not made much progress, so it is necessary to develop anticancer agents with lower toxicities and more effective liver-targeting drug delivery systems (LTDDSs). At present, LTDDSs mediated by the asialoglycoprotein receptor (ASGPR) show excellent effects at improving the liver-targeting and antitumor effects of drugs. However, the galactosyl ligands are typically prepared by chemical synthesis and have some shortcomings.

This study investigated the progressive morphological alterations and digestive tract development in larval and juvenile red spotted grouper, across growth stages. External shape observations were made using an optical microscope, and the development of the digestive tract was investigated using histological methods. At 1 day after hatching (DAH), the digestive tract appeared as a straight tube extending between the ventral side and yolk-sac.
