Beliefs and practices of 100 urban mothers regarding "hot" and "cold" foods during four common childhood illnesses were determined by using a pretested, partly structured interview schedule. Egg, by 60% of mothers, mango by 52%, lentils by 49%, jaggery by 46% were considered "hot" properties. "Hot" foods were preferred and "cold" foods restricted in the treatment of cough and cold and illnesses with rash. In diarrhoea, "cold" foods were preferred and "hot" foods restricted. The knowledge that many food combinations and certain procedures are believed to change the properties of common food may be utilized in promoting the consumption of nutritionally balanced diets. Introduction of culturally acceptable education in nutrition which incorporates the above knowledge is likely to help in the prevention of protein-energy malnutrition and to increase parental co-operation during therapy.

This study investigated the mechanisms employed by exogenous dopamine application in alleviating chilling injury in kiwifruits during storage at 1 °C for 120 days. Our results indicated that dopamine treatment at 150 µM alleviated chilling injury in kiwifruits during storage at 1 °C for 120 days. By 150 µM dopamine application, higher SUMO E3 ligase (SIZ1) and target of rapamycin (TOR) genes expression accompanied by lower poly(ADP-Ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1) and sucrose non-fermenting 1-related kinase 1 (SnRK1) genes expression was associated with higher salicylic acid, ATP, NADPH and proline accumulation in kiwifruits during storage at 1 °C for 120 days.

Oral fast dissolving films represent a novel dosage form for probiotics. To reduce the dependence of film preparation on synthetic materials, a polysaccharide-based oral fast dissolving nanofilm for probiotics was fabricated through pullulan (PUL) electrospinning. An electrospinnability map of PUL with varying physical properties was developed, identifying a molecular weight of 200 kDa and a concentration of 20 % as suitable conditions for achieving favorable fiber morphology.
