In preneoplastic rat liver nodules produced by 2-acetylaminofluorene, certain uridine diphosphate-glucuronyltransferase (UDP-GT) activities, which are ascribed to a distinct enzyme form, were selectively increased (5-fold). This enzyme form, operationally termed UDP-GT1, accepts 1-naphthol,4-methylumbelliferone, and 3-hydroxybenzo(a)pyrene as substrates and is chiefly inducible in liver by 3-methylcholanthrene-type inducers. Glucuronidation of other substrates (morphine, 4-hydroxybiphenyl, chloramphenicol, bilirubin, and estrone) was only slightly enhanced or decreased in nodular tissue. Differentially increased UDP-GT1 activities were also found in Morris hepatomas 9121 and 7777. Rabbit antibodies to rat liver UDP-GT1, purified from 3-methylcholanthrene-treated rats, demonstrated immunological similarity between the enzymes from liver, nodular tissue, and Morris hepatoma 9121. Rocket immunoelectrophoresis ascertained that enhanced enzyme activity in nodular tissue reflected an increased level of enzyme protein. Increased activity of UDP-GT1 together with decreased cytochrome P-450-dependent monooxygenase may contribute to the resistance of preneoplastic hepatocytes to the cytotoxic actions of chemical carcinogens.

CD4 and CD8 T cells play critical roles in both innate and adaptive immune responses, managing and modulating cellular immunity during immune diseases and cancer. Their well-established functions have led to significant clinical benefits. CD4CD8 double-positive (DP) T cells, a subset of the T cell population, have been identified in the blood and peripheral lymphoid tissues across various species.

A man in his early 50s from Tanzania presented with chronic nodular skin lesions and joint pain, likely due to gout complicated by obesity, after over 15 years of misdiagnosis and ineffective treatment. Despite various therapies for leprosy, tuberculosis and steroid use, his condition worsened, leading to hyperglycaemia and significant financial strain. Missed opportunities to use simple, low-cost diagnostic tests such as ultrasound and examining nodule fluid for urate crystals led to delays in diagnosis.

Introduction: Amyloidosis, a polymeric deposition disease classified according to protein subtype, may have varied pulmonary manifestations. Its anatomic-radiologic phenotypes include nodular, cystic, alveolar-septal, and tracheobronchial forms. Clinical presentation may range from asymptomatic parenchymal nodules to respiratory failure from diffuse parenchymal infiltration or diaphragmatic deposition.

Background: Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD), also known as sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy, is a rare non-malignant disorder characterized by excessive proliferation of histiocytes, the cause of which remains unknown. Although the lymph nodes are the most commonly affected site, some patients may present with extranodal involvement, particularly in the skin, nasal cavity, eyes, and bones. In this report, we aim to present a unique case of RDD with pleural involvement in a 61-year-old patient.

Producing homogeneous planting material in oil palm poses a significant challenge, which can be addressed through somatic embryogenesis. This study successfully achieved somatic embryogenesis using immature male inflorescence from Tenera hybrid. Modified Eeuwens medium yielded better results than the Murashige and Skoog (MS) and CHU (N6) media when supplemented with 2,4-D, picloram and α-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA).
