Interaction between central cholecystokinin and dopaminergic system in layer-type chickens' food intake.

Department of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Science and Research Branch, Islamic Azad University, Tehran, Iran.

The mechanisms governing food intake and appetite regulation in the brain are intricate and vary across different animal species. Dopamine and cholecystokinin (CCK) are recognized as two critical neurotransmitters involved in the control of food intake; however, the potential interactions between these neurotransmitters remain poorly understood. Consequently, this study aimed to investigate the interactions between central CCK and the dopaminergic system in the feeding behavior of layer-type chickens.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how Weichang'an pill (WCAP) affects functional dyspepsia (FD) in rats, focusing on brain-gut peptides and gut microbiota as potential treatment mechanisms.
  • Researchers created an FD rat model and divided the rats into different treatment groups, including those receiving WCAP and a control for comparison, then measured gastrointestinal motility and gut microbiota composition.
  • Results showed that WCAP improved FD symptoms by enhancing gastric emptying, regulating brain-gut peptide levels, and restoring gut microbiota balance, suggesting it could be an effective treatment for FD.

Article Synopsis
  • GERD is a common stomach problem that affects many people and causes changes in the esophagus due to inflammation.
  • Researchers studied a substance called bombesin to see if it could help reduce inflammation and stomach pain in mice with GERD.
  • The results showed that bombesin helped lower pain and improve stomach conditions, suggesting it could be a good treatment option for people with GERD.

Enteric pathogens navigate distinct regional microenvironments within the intestine that cue important adaptive behaviors. We investigated the response of Citrobacter rodentium, a model of human pathogenic Escherichia coli infection in mice, to regional gastrointestinal pH. We found that small intestinal pH (4.
