Hydroxyethylstarch 450/0.7 has a prolonged intravascular volume expanding effect. Anaphylactoid reactions have not been seen in the present series, although untoward side effects of this kind have already been reported. It is to be hoped that the restricted use of plasma expanders in favour of the much more expensive human albumin will be changed in future in the direction of using plasma expanders more freely than during the last years.
