Introduction: Orofacial cleft impacts jawbone and dental development and function, often with consequences for oral health. The first in this two-part systematic review of the literature on oral health in persons with cleft lip and/or palate focuses on periodontal parameters and composition of oral bacterial flora, while the second analyzes data on dental caries.
Materials And Methods: Four databases (PubMed, Cochrane, Scopus, Web of Science) were searched for studies that compared periodontal parameters, caries index, and microbiota composition between persons with cleft lip and/or palate and healthy controls.

Objectives: Patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are repeatedly affected by oral diseases or problems, including dental caries and periodontal diseases (PDs). Periodontitis and rheumatoid arthritis are chronic inflammatory destructive diseases that share many similarities. The objective of this study was to assess oral health status including examination of hard dental tissues and periodontium in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and compare the results with healthy controls.

This study evaluates the effectiveness of an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based smartphone application designed for decay detection on intraoral photographs, comparing its performance to that of junior dentists. Conducted at The Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, Pakistan, this study utilized a dataset comprising 7,465 intraoral images, including both primary and secondary dentitions. These images were meticulously annotated by two experienced dentists and further verified by senior dentists.

Background: Genetic predilection toward sweeter cariogenic foods mediated by the gene, tested by phenylthiourea [phenylthiocarbamide (PTC)] compounds. Some individuals find it extremely bitter whereas some find it completely tasteless, being classified as a taster and a nontaster respectively. A majority of nontasters prefer foods with sweeter and stronger flavors, thus making them more susceptible to dental caries.
