The application of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) in the diagnosis of cryptococcal meningitis is relatively under characterized. Here, we retrospectively evaluated data from cryptococcal meningitis patients who were tested using mNGS and/or routine testing, including fungal culture, India ink staining, and cryptococcal antigen (CrAg) testing. Global demand for food has driven expansion and intensification of livestock production, particularly in developing nations where antibiotic use is often routine. Waste from poultry production, including manure, is commonly utilized as fertilizers in agroecosystems, risking environmental contamination with potentially zoonotic bacteria and antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs). Here, 33 bacterial isolates were recovered from broiler (n=17) and layer (n=16) chicken manure by aerobic culture using Luria Bertani agar.

This study aimed to evaluate the usefulness of amplicon-based real-time metagenomic sequencing applied to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for identifying the causative agents of bacterial meningitis. We conducted a 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing using a nanopore-based platform, alongside routine polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing or bacterial culture, to compare its clinical performance in pathogen detection on CSF samples. Among 17 patients, nanopore-based sequencing, multiplex PCR, and bacterial culture detected potential bacterial pathogens in 47.

This article examines leisure time physical activity (LTPA) for middle-class women as relational, intricately linked with societal understandings of personal responsibility to work, to family and to health and entangled with the emotion management of 'successful' middle-class womanhood. We focus on middle-class Danish women who engage in routinised participation in LTPA. We illuminate through our qualitative study how emotional reflexivity involves dispersed practices that are entangled with this lifelong physical activity and how these entangled, mutually evolving practices enable women to dutifully enact 'successful' womanhood, in line with contemporary ideals.
