The chronic effect of terephthalic acid and its dimethyl ester on rats causes a significant decrease of uptake of norepinephrine by gray matter synaptosomes and activates the monoaminoxidase and catechol-O-methyltransferase in cerebral hemispheres.

Electronic grade hydrogen peroxide plays a crucial role in the fabrication of large-scale integrated circuits. However, hydrogen peroxide prepared by the anthraquinone method contains impurities such as lead ions (Pb) and phosphate, which can seriously affect the yield of the circuit. Traditional adsorbent materials have difficulty in solving the problem of simultaneous adsorption of trace anions and cations in hydrogen peroxide due to the single adsorption site and poor adsorption kinetics.

Plastic pollution, particularly from microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs), has become a critical environmental and health concern due to their widespread distribution, persistence, and potential toxicity. MPs and NPs originate from primary sources, such as cosmetic microspheres or synthetic fibers, and secondary fragmentation of larger plastics through environmental degradation. These particles, typically less than 5 mm, are found globally, from deep seabeds to human tissues, and are known to adsorb and release harmful pollutants, exacerbating ecological and health risks.

Three new analogues of Tb-UiO-66 with various functional groups (-F, -Br, -NH) on the terephthalic acid linker of the metal-organic framework (MOF) are synthesized and characterized. The photoluminescent properties of these analogues, as well as Tb-UiO-66 and Tb-UiO-66-(OH), are studied and correlated to the calculated energies for the triplet (T) states of each linker. The results show that the addition of electron withdrawing groups, such as -F and -Br, lead to higher T energies, resulting in quantum yields in the range of 6-31%.

An electrochemical sensor is presented for the detection of the chloramphenicol (CAP) based on a bimetallic MIL-101(Fe/Co) MOF electrocatalyst. The MIL-101(Fe/Co) was prepared by utilizing mixed-valence Fe (III) and Co (II) as metal nodes and terephthalic acid as ligands with a simple hydrothermal method and characterized by SEM, TEM, XRD, FTIR, and XPS. Electrochemical measurements such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) showed that bimetallic MIL-101(Fe/Co) had the faster electron transfer, larger electroactive area, and higher electrocatalytic activity compared with their monometallic counterparts due to the strong synergistic effect between bimetals.

Upcycling organic and inorganic waste into value-added metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) presents a sustainable strategy for mitigating waste pollution and promoting economic viability. However, rapid synthesis of MOF materials derived from actual industrial waste under mild conditions remains challenging. Herein, Fe-MOF MIL-88B(Fe) was successfully fabricated within 1 h at room temperature using galvanizing pickling waste liquid and terephthalic acid derived from waste poly(ethylene terephthalate).
