Within the course of evolution, TIR (Toll/interleukin-1 receptor) domains acquired a myriad of functional specificities. This has significantly added to their well-established roles in innate immune signaling. These additional functions include nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD)(P) hydrolase, RNA/DNA nuclease (in plants), CN (cyclic nucleotide) cyclase, and base exchanger activities.

Gram-negative bacteria pose an increased threat to public health because of their ability to evade the effects of many antimicrobials with growing antibiotic resistance globally. One key component of gram-negative bacteria resistance is the functionality and the cells' ability to repair the outer membrane (OM) which acts as a barrier for the cell to the external environment. The biosynthesis of lipids, particularly lipopolysaccharides, or lipooligosaccharides (LPS/LOS) is essential for OM repair.

Salmonella is a common foodborne zoonotic pathogen that poses a great threat to human health and breeding industry. The rapid detection of Salmonella is necessary for early prevention and control. In this study, a subtractive inhibition assay (SIA) based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) for the rapid detection of Salmonella was developed.

Objective: To investigate the effects of Astragalus polysaccharide (APS) on skeletal muscle structure and function in D-galactose (D-gal)-induced C57BL/6J mice.
Methods: Eighteen male C57BL/6J mice of specific pathogen-free (SPF) grade, aged 8 weeks, were selected and divided into three groups: a control group (0.9% saline gavage for 16 weeks), a D-gal group (subcutaneous injection of 200 mg/kg D-galactose in the upper neck region, once daily for 8 weeks), and a D-gal + APS group (subcutaneous injection of 200 mg/kg D-galactose, once daily for 8 weeks, with concurrent administration of 100 mg/kg APS by gavage for 8 weeks).
