Because the environment around cardiovascular healthcare is rapidly changing, it becomes highly important to make a breakthrough at the dawn of a new era. The main theme of this meeting was "Renaissance of Cardiology for the Creation of Future Medicine".

The 27th Annual Latin American Symposium presented by the American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA) was held as part of the 83rd Annual Meeting of the AMCA in San Diego, CA, in February 2017. The Latin American Symposia promote the participation of vector control specialists, public health workers, and academicians from Latin America and the sharing of data between continents. Generally, presentations are in Spanish and simultaneously translated in English, although the majority of PowerPoint slides are in English so all meeting attendees can understand the content.

Frailty has been defined as a geriatric syndrome that is characterized by a reduction in the physiological reserve required for an individual to respond to endogenous and exogenous stressors. Using a discrete definition of frailty that includes sedentariness, involuntary weight loss, fatigue, poor muscle strength, and slow gait speed, 'frailty' has been associated with increased disability, postsurgical complications, and increased mortality. Despite the strong associations between frailty and subsequent poor outcomes, limited attention to this common geriatric condition has been paid in clinical settings.
