Six observations of post-traumatic acute respiratory insufficiency of alveolar origin are reported briefly. Three of them have been attributed to a Mendelson's syndrome. This authors showed that diagnosing these lung diseases by acid inhalation is particularly difficult in casualties. It is a diagnosis by elimination which no certainty can prop. These post-traumatic Mendelson's syndrome are serious and difficult to prevent. In the three cases reported two accidents occurred during or immediately after an intubation. The systematic use of an efficient anti-acid could be recommended in all serious casualities.

Prevalence of dysphagia is high in hospitalised geriatric patients, posing risks of complications including malnutrition, dehydration, aspiration, and pneumonia. These complications may lead to reduced daily functioning, frailty, prolonged hospital stays, readmissions, and mortality. Diagnosing dysphagia in geriatric patients is often challenging due to the complex health conditions of this patient group, and overall these patients are at risk of lack of continuity in patient pathways and unnecessary hospitalisations.

Methods: The records of client-owned dogs referred to the Texas A&M University Small Animal Teaching Hospital for surgical correction of BOAS over 4 years (February 2019 to June 2023) were retrospectively reviewed. A perioperative protocol for patients undergoing surgical correction of BOAS was implemented in June 2021, which included preoperative cisapride and antacid administration, minimizing opioid use, and a slow recovery with nebulization of hypertonic saline.
