We identified and characterized a novel leucine dehydrogenase (LeuDH) with a high catalytic efficiency for benzoylformic acid via directed metagenomic approaches. Further, we obtained a triple-point mutant LeuDH-EER (D332E/G333E/L334R) with improved stability and catalytic efficiency through the rational design of distal loop 13.

Plants produce defensive toxins to deter herbivores. In response, some specialized herbivores evolved resistance and even the capacity to sequester toxins, affecting interactions at higher trophic levels. Here, we test the hypothesis that potential natural enemies of specialized herbivores are differentially affected by plant toxins depending on their level of adaptation to the plant-herbivore system.

Resveratrol, a natural polyphenol, has shown promising neuroprotective effects in several in vivo and in vitro experimental models. However, the mechanisms by which resveratrol mediates these effects are not fully understood. Recent outbreaks of PRRSV in live attenuated vaccine-immunized pig farms in Tianjin, China have raised questions about the etiological characteristics and pathogenicity of the PRRSV variant, which remains unknown. In this study, a multiple lineages recombinant PRRSV strain named TJ-C6, was isolated and identified. Phylogenetic trees and genome homology analyses revealed that TJ-C6 belonged to lineage 1.
