A feature-based approach for atlas selection in automatic pelvic segmentation.

PLoS One

January 2025

Department of Radiation Physics, Zhejiang Key Laboratory of Radiation Oncology, Zhejiang Cancer Hospital, Hangzhou Institute of Medicine (HIM), Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.

Accurate and efficient automatic segmentation is essential for various clinical tasks such as radiotherapy treatment planning. However, atlas-based segmentation still faces challenges due to the lack of representative atlas dataset and the computational limitations of deformation algorithms. In this work, we have proposed an atlas selection procedure (subset atlas grouping approach, MAS-SAGA) which utilized both image similarity and volume features for selecting the best-fitting atlases for contour propagation.

Objective: This systematic review was conducted to synthesize current research on the role of repeated transurethral resection of the bladder (re-TURB) and the emerging use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in discerning patient suitability for safely foregoing this procedure.

Evidence Acquisition: Employing a methodical literature search, we consulted several bibliographic databases including PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, and Embase. The review process adhered strictly to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA 2020) guidelines.

Objective: The objective of this study was to explore the ability of dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) to detect monosodium urate (MSU) crystal deposits in the kidneys and renal artery walls, and uric acid urolithiasis, in patients with gout and chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Methods: Patients with gout and with stage 2-4 CKD were prospectively included in this cross-sectional study. Patients underwent renal, knee and feet DECT scans.

Postpartum pyogenic sacroiliitis masquerading as sciatic neuropathy.

BMJ Case Rep

January 2025

Department of Orthopedics, SDM College of Medical Sciences and Hospital, Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University, Dharwad, Karnataka, India.

Low back pain is common in women, especially during pregnancy and puerperium. Septic sacroiliitis, a rare cause of back pain in the postpartum period can mimic other common causes of low back pain like muscle strain, urinary tract infection, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis and intervertebral disc prolapse. The proximity of the sacroiliac joint to the sacral nerve plexus results in septic sacroiliitis frequently presenting with symptoms mimicking intervertebral disc prolapse.

Objectives: To understand whether bladder outflow obstruction influences the association between traditional clinical predictive factors, particularly prostate-specific antigen (PSA) density and clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa). This will help facilitate effective and evidence-based triaging of patients in rapid-access clinics.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively analysed prospectively collected data from 307 suspected prostate cancer patients who underwent diagnostic biopsy from 2019 to 2023 at a single, high-volume, specialist cancer centre.
