The maternal and fetal effects of aminophylline on hemodynamics and acid-base and blood gas balances were evaluated by 11 infusions to four chronically catheterized sheep at 114-142 days' gestation. Maternal and fetal arterial blood samples were drawn for baseline determination at 15-minute intervals. Mean maternal and fetal pH levels and heart rates increased significantly. Respiratory alkalosis was indicated by a concomitant fall in mean maternal carbon dioxide pressure. We conclude that aminophylline infusion (5.6 mg/kg of body weight/15 min) to pregnant sheep may cause maternal and fetal tachycardia and alkalosis, with a possible increase in uterine blood flow, but no changes in fetal blood gas status or blood pressure.

Objective: To describe the presentation, outcomes, and management strategies for cases of subcapsular liver hematoma associated with preeclampsia, eclampsia, or HELLP (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count) syndrome.
Methods: This was a case series of individuals with subcapsular liver hematoma managed at a single level IV center over a 10-year period, from 2013 to 2024. Presenting signs and symptoms, laboratory findings, time of onset, management strategies, acute perinatal and maternal outcomes, and long-term outcomes such as subsequent pregnancies were reviewed in the medical record and recorded.

Background: Operative delivery is a technique used during vaginal or cesarean birth to facilitate the patient's labor course through the assistance of a vacuum extractor. This method is increasingly used compared with forceps. This study aimed to investigate the forced effects of vacuum extractors comprising vacuum cups with different thicknesses on the fetal head and the vacuum extractor during vacuum-assisted delivery and to determine the optimal thickness for reducing the failure rate and minimizing neonatal and maternal morbidity.

Background: Despite existing policies promoting companionship, it remains uncommon in Tanzania. Pregnant women select a trusted individual to accompany them during childbirth, providing emotional, physical, and spiritual support. The World Health Organization recommends birth companionship as integral to intrapartum care for positive maternal and fetal outcomes.

Introduction: Placental DNA methylation differences have been associated with timing in gestation and pregnancy complications. Maternal cell-free DNA (cfDNA) partly originates from the placenta and could enable the minimally invasive study of placental DNA methylation dynamics. We will for the first time longitudinally investigate cfDNA methylation during pregnancy by using Methylated DNA Sequencing (MeD-seq), which is compatible with low cfDNA levels and has an extensive genome-wide coverage.

Alloimmunization during pregnancy occurs when a mother produces antibodies against fetal antigens, leading to complications like hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN) and fetal and neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (FNAIT). HDFN involves destruction of fetal red blood cells, potentially causing severe anemia, hydrops fetalis, and fetal death. FNAIT affects fetal platelets and possibly endothelial cells, resulting in risk of intracranial hemorrhage and brain damage.
