Introduction And Aim: The main categories of drugs employed for medical expulsive therapy in patients with ureteral calculi (UC) are alpha-blockers (α-B) and beta-adrenoceptor agonists. This meta-analysis evaluated the safety and effectiveness of α-B versus mirabegron (MIR) in treating UC.

Methods: From January 1980 to October 2024, we extensively searched the Pubmed, Web of science, Cochrane and EMBASE databases to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared the effectiveness of α-B and MIR in managing UC.

Background Context: Elevation of mean arterial blood pressure (MAP) has been proposed to raise spinal cord blood flow (SCBF) after traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI). Current clinical guidelines for cervical TSCI suggest maintaining MAP 85-90 mmHg for 5-7 days using vasopressors, eg, noradrenaline. However, it remains unknown whether these interventions that promote an increased systemic MAP result in improved perfusion in the spinal cord.

Purpose: Urolithiasis and symptomatic ureterolithiasis represent diseases known to be on the increase in most westernized countries. The present article aims to give an overview on some drug principles assumed to target signalling systems involved in modulating ureter smooth muscle contractility and to present background to their potential use or prospects in ureter stone disease.

Methods: The article reviews drugs that have been evaluated over the last decades in vitro, in vivo and/or in clinical settings with regard to their properties to achieve spontaneous passage of (distal) ureteral stones and relieve colic pain.

Automaticity of the Pulmonary Vein Myocardium and the Effect of Class I Antiarrhythmic Drugs.

Int J Mol Sci

November 2024

Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Toho University, 2-2-1 Miyama Funabashi, Chiba 274-8510, Japan.

The pulmonary vein wall contains a myocardial layer whose ectopic automaticity is the major cause of atrial fibrillation. This review summarizes the results obtained in isolated pulmonary vein myocardium from small experimental animals, focusing on the studies with the guinea pig. The diversity in the action potential waveform reflects the difference in the repolarizing potassium channel currents involved.
