Unlabelled: As wildfire regimes shift, resource managers are concerned about potential threats to aquatic ecosystems and the species they support, especially fishes. However, predicting fish responses can be challenging because wildfires affect aquatic ecosystems via multiple pathways. Application of whole-ecosystem approaches, such as food web modeling, can act as heuristic tools that offer valuable insights that account for these different mechanisms.

In marine ecosystems, arsenic (As) and total mercury (T-Hg) represent two of the major pollutants, particularly in fish due to their ecology and the affinity of these metal(loid)s with biological cycles. This study assessed the influence of total length, total weight, relative condition factor, and trophic levels of ten marine fish species from the Colombian Caribbean on As and T-Hg accumulation in muscle tissue, as well as the differentiation in accumulated amounts based on fish habitat type. Water diversions can mitigate water scarcities by strategically reallocating water resources. Despite their benefits, these interventions may profoundly affect biodiversity and multiple ecological functions ("multifunctionality") within highly managed lake systems. However, the specific impact of such interventions on the relationship between biodiversity and multifunctionality remains elusive, which limits our grasp of how water regulation shapes the dynamics of managed lake ecosystems.

Pollutants such as microplastics (MPs) are detrimental to the health of humans, animals and reduce the quality of the environment. These particles can be ingested and accumulate in marine biota through the food chain leading to adverse effects on various physiological processes. Sharks, which typically occupy higher trophic levels in the marine food chain, may exhibit the highest accumulation of MPs.

This study investigates essential (Mg, Ca, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Se, Ni) and non-essential (Li, Be, Cr, Rb, Sr, Cs, Cd, Sn, Ba, and Pb) element concentrations and stable isotope (δC, δN, δS) compositions in feathers of Brown Boobies (Sula leucogaster) from three distinct Atlantic islands: the Archipelagos of Saint Peter and Saint Paul (SPSP), Abrolhos, and Cagarras. We aimed to investigate the ecological and environmental factors influencing these seabird populations and assess potential variations in contaminant exposure and dietary habits based on location, sex, and maturity stages. Our finding revealed significant geographical differences in trace element concentrations.
