Hydrocortisone hemisuccinate within 4 hours after in vivo administration produced an increase in precursor incoporation into rat thymus RNA and proteins in the whole animal. From these results, together with information obtained from measurements of the tyrosine aminotransferase activity and the action of mitomycin C administered one hour before the injection of hydrocortisone, it can be concluded that the increase in tissue level of the enzyme, consequent to hydrocortisone treatment, results from an increased rate of biosynthesis of the enzyme, which participates in the catabolic processes of proteins in glucocorticoid sensitive thymus cells.

Genetic loss of the 2-oxoglutarate oxygenase factor inhibiting hypoxia-inducible factor (FIH) enhances both glycolysis and aerobic metabolism. FIH is thus a potential target for adiposity control and improving hepatic steatosis. We describe development of a series of novel, potent, and selective FIH inhibitors that occupy both the FIH catalytic site and a recently defined tyrosine conformational-flip pocket.

In animals, limiting oxygen upregulates the hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) and promotes a metabolic shift towards glycolysis. Factor inhibiting HIF (FIH) is an asparaginyl hydroxylase that regulates HIF function by reducing its interaction with histone acetyl transferases. HIF levels are negatively regulated by the HIF prolyl hydroxylases (PHDs) which, like FIH, are 2-oxoglutarate (2OG) oxygenases.

This research aimed to develop a new method for clean utilization and treatment of landfill leachate and solid waste weathered coal. Landfill leachate and weathered coal were adopted for combined anaerobic fermentation for methane production. The characteristics of microbial community, mechanism of biological methane production, and utilization characteristics of fermentation broth and solid residue for co-fermentation were analyzed through metagenomics, soluble organic matter detection and thermogravimetric (TG) analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • - Aberrant blood vessel growth in liver cancer (HCC) helps tumors grow and spread.
  • - A protein called HIF-1α gets stabilized when certain enzymes are not working properly, leading to more blood vessel growth signals in tumors.
  • - Researchers found that a missing enzyme called GSTZ1 can help stop this process, and using a specific treatment can potentially help fight liver cancer.

The metabolic status of dairy cows directly influences the nutritional quality and flavor of raw milk. A comprehensive comparison of non-volatile metabolites and volatile compounds in raw milk from healthy and subclinical ketosis (SCK) cows was performed using LC-MS, GC-FID, and HS-SPME/GC-MS. SCK can significantly alter the profiles of water-soluble non-volatile metabolites, lipids, and volatile compounds of raw milk.
