ADP and poly ADP-ribosylation are post-translational modifications of proteins which have been reported to occur essentially in eucaryotic nuclei. This phenomenon has been shown to interfere with a great variety of biological functions (cell differentiation, DNA repair, malignant transformation...). In this paper, we demonstrate for the first time that ADP-ribosylation occurs also in cytosol (120 000 g supernatant) and that several cytosolic proteins can be ADP-ribosylated in rat liver.

A common heavy metal in many facets of daily life is aluminum (AlCl3), which can be found in food, toothpaste, cosmetics, food additives, and numerous pharmaceutical items. The hippocampus, liver, and kidneys have the highest concentrations of this powerful neurotoxin, which also accumulates over time and contributes to the development of a number of cognitive disorders. Long-term overconsumption of AlCl3 results in hepatic and renal toxicity as well as neuronal inflammation.

Childhood obesity increases the risk of developing metabolic diseases in adulthood, since environmental stimuli during critical windows of development can impact on adult metabolic health. Studies demonstrating the effect of prepubertal diet on adult metabolic disease risk are still limited. We hypothesized that a prepubertal control diet (CD) protects the adult metabolic phenotype from diet-induced obesity (DIO), while a high-fat diet (HFD) would predispose to adult metabolic alterations.

Experimental studies of chronic noise exposure in modern urban life testified about oxidative stress due to the corresponding hormones effects leading to accumulation of reactive oxygen species and endothelial dysfunction. This study aims to evaluate the protective effect of α2-adrenoblockers to modulate oxidative stress and corticosterone levels due to chronic noise exposure. To achieve this, we examined the effects of beditin (2-aminothiozolyl-1,4-benzodioxane) and mesedin (2-(2-methyl-amino-thiozolyl)-1,4-benzodioxane hydrochloride), along with changes in corticosterone, Ca2 + content, and morphological alterations in various tissues under noise-induced stress.

Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) and Ochratoxin A (OTA) are considered the most important mycotoxins in terms of food safety. The aim of this study was to evaluate the hepatotoxicity of AFB1 and OTA exposure in Wistar rats and to assess the beneficial effect of fermented whey (FW) and pumpkin (P) as functional ingredients through a proteomic approach. For the experimental procedures, rats were fed AFB1 and OTA individually or in combination, with the addition of FW or a FW-P mixture during 28 days.

An understanding of snake venom pharmacokinetics is essential for determining clinical outcomes of envenoming and developing therapeutic approaches to the treatment of envenoming, especially regarding the timing and optimal dosage of antivenom administration. (Eastern Russell's viper) envenoming causes systemic coagulopathy and severe hemorrhage including acute kidney injury. These toxic outcomes can be diminished by the administration of high quantities of Russell's viper antivenom.
