Background: Acute lung injury (ALI) is a severe condition characterized by inflammation, tissue damage, and persistent activation of the cyclic GMP-AMP (cGAS)-stimulator of interferon genes (STING) pathway, which exacerbates the production of pro-inflammatory mediators and promotes the progression of ALI. Specific inhibition of this pathway has been shown to alleviate ALI symptoms. Kaempferol-3---L-(4″--p-coumaroyl)-rhamnoside (KAE), an active compound found in the flowers of Kitagawa, exhibits anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae caused lower respiratory tract infection in children and can exacerbate these infections through the production of various inflammatory factors, with chemokines playing a key role. However, the pathogenesis of this infection is complicated and thus has not been thoroughly studied. We clarified that cytokine expression levels were analyzed in both peripheral blood and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), and in vitro assays were conducted using THP-1 macrophages.

Chickens are a key species in both the manifestation of avian influenza and the potential for zoonotic transmission. Avian influenza virus (AIV) infection in chickens can range from asymptomatic or mild disease with low pathogenic AIVs (LPAIVs) to systemic fatal disease with high pathogenic AIVs (HPAIVs). During AIV infection in chickens, Toll-like receptor 7 and melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 are upregulated to detect the single-stranded ribonucleic acid genomes of AIV, triggering a signaling cascade that produces interferons (IFNs) and pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Coronaviruses express their structural and accessory genes via a set of subgenomic RNAs, whose synthesis is directed by transcription regulatory sequences (TRSs) in the 5' genomic leader and upstream of each body open reading frame. In SARS-CoV-2, the TRS has the consensus AAACGAAC; upon searching for emergence of this motif in the global SARS-CoV-2 sequences, we find that it evolves frequently, especially in the 3' end of the genome. We show well-supported examples upstream of the Spike gene-within the nsp16 coding region of ORF1b-which is expressed during human infection, and upstream of the canonical Envelope gene TRS, both of which have evolved convergently in multiple lineages.
