Background The emergence of treatment-resistant species has highlighted the importance of antifungal susceptibility testing as it is difficult to determine therapeutics solely based on species identification. However, as compared to bacterial pathogens, antimicrobial susceptibility testing in fungi still remains underutilized in most clinical diagnostic microbiological services. The disc diffusion (DD) technique is reported to be easy and cost-effective and therefore can be easily incorporated as a routine method.

Synthesis, characterization, anticancer, antibacterial and antifungal activities of nanocomposite based on tertiary metal oxide FeO@CuO@ZnONPs, starch, ethylcellulose and collagen.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

Department of Hematology/Oncology, Yousef Abdulatif Jameel Scientific Chair of Prophetic Medicine Application, Faculty of Medicine, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah 21589, Saudi Arabia. Electronic address:

This study aimed to synthesize a nanocomposite based on tertiary metal oxide FeO@CuO@ZnONPs, starch, ethylcellulose, and collagen, as well as evaluate its biological activities. The prepared nanocomposites were characterized using physicochemical analysis, which included FTIR, XRD, and DLS. Additionally, topographical analysis using FI-SEM, EDX, mapping, HR-TEM, and SAED affirmed the molecular structure and nanosized of formulated nanocomposites.

This research investigates the microbial inactivation potential of ternary TiO-CuO-chitosan nanocomposites (TCC NCs) applied as surface coatings on cowhide leather. Initially, bare TiO nanoparticles (NPs) and binary TiO-CuO (TC) NCs, with varying CuO NPs content, were prepared using an sol-gel method. These binary TC NCs were then modified with chitosan at varying weight percentages (2%, 4%, 6%, and 8%).

Carboxylated cellulose nanocrystals mediated flower-like zinc oxide for antimicrobial without activation of light.

J Colloid Interface Sci

April 2025

State Key Laboratory of Pulp and Paper Engineering, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou 510640, China. Electronic address:

Conventional light-driven antimicrobial strategies of zinc oxide (ZnO) are limited by inadequate illumination in dark environments. In this study, carboxylated cellulose nanocrystals (MCNC) mediated flower-like ZnO (C@Z) with self-promoted reactive oxygen species release under dark is fabricated. The adsorption of Zn ions on MCNC prompts the growth of ZnO along the (002) crystal plane, forming a flower-like hybrid with superior dispersibility and oxygen vacancies compared to MCNC-free ZnO, which exposes the (100) plane.
