Drug checking services (DCS) are entities that allow recreational drug users to have street drug samples analyzed. Diverse analytical methods are applied for DCS, ranging from test strips to mass spectrometry (MS). This work evaluates the performance and utility of common methodologies used for DCS operating with off-site drug testing, while additionally assessing the potential of gas chromatography coupled to vapor phase infrared spectroscopy (GC-IR).

Introduction: Non-traumatic abdominal pain is a common emergency presentation frequently managed by general surgeons. Abdominopelvic computed tomography (CT) scans are the most popular imaging modality in this context. In many hospitals, the rising demand for urgent and emergent scans out-of-hours has necessitated the outsourcing of this service to teleradiology companies, whereby reports are generated at sites remote from the image acquisition.

Background: Despite many studies evaluating lung ultrasound (LUS) for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) prognostication, the generalizability and utility across clinical settings are uncertain.
Methods: Adults (≥18 years of age) with COVID-19 were enrolled at 2 military hospitals, an emergency department, home visits, and a homeless shelter in the United States, and in a referral hospital in Uganda. Participants had a 12-zone LUS scan performed at time of enrollment and clips were read off-site.

Objectives: To compare the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and Doppler ultrasound (DUS) findings with the pathological findings of soft tissue vascular tumors (STVTs) according to the 2018 ISSVA (International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies) classification to differentiate vascular tumors from vascular malformations.
Methods: This retrospective study included patients with STVTs who underwent contrast-enhanced MRI and pathological analysis at our hospital between 2010 and 2020. The presumptive diagnosis based on the on-site imaging and histological analysis was compared with imaging and histological analysis conducted off-site utilizing the ISSVA criteria.

From the Department of Surgery.
Objectives: Total pancreatectomy with islet autotransplant (TPIAT) is important therapy for select chronic pancreatitis (CP) patients. The specialized technique of islet isolation limits widespread TPIAT use. We hypothesized that remote islet isolation provides satisfactory islet yield and perioperative outcomes.
