The clinical application of curcumin (CUR) is restricted by its low solubility, instability, and poor bioavailability. To overcome these limitations, we developed a novel stearic acid-grafted inulin-based nano-delivery system for CUR encapsulation. The structure of stearoyl inulin (SA-IN) was characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, hydrogen nuclear magnetic resonance, thermogravimetric analysis, and contact angle measurements.

Accurately predicting the remaining useful life (RUL) of critical mechanical components is a central challenge in reliability engineering. Stochastic processes, which are capable of modeling uncertainties, are widely used in RUL prediction. However, conventional stochastic process models face two major limitations: (1) the reliance on strict assumptions during model formulation, restricting their applicability to a narrow range of degradation processes, and (2) the inability to account for potential variations in the degradation mechanism during modeling and prediction.

[Application of biomanufacturing in polymer flooding].

Sheng Wu Gong Cheng Xue Bao

January 2025

College of Biotechnology and Bioengineering, Zhejiang University of Technology, Hangzhou 310014, Zhejiang, China.

In China, the crude oil supply is highly dependent on overseas countries, and thus strengthening crude oil self-sufficiency has become an important issue of the national energy security. Tertiary oil recovery, especially polymer flooding, has been widely applied in large oil fields in China, which can increase the recovery rate by 15%-20% compared with water flooding. However, the widely used oil flooding polymers show poor thermal stability and salinity tolerance, complicated synthesis ways of monomers, and environmental unfriendliness.

Background: Supernumerary digits, or polydactyly, have been described in various species including humans, wild and domestic animals. In horses, it represents the most common congenital limb malformation, which has only been described in isolated cases or nuclear families. Molecular aetiology has not been reported.

Polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in surface soils and street dusts in Detroit, Michigan.

Sci Total Environ

January 2025

Department of Environmental Health Sciences, School of Public Health, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, 48109, United States. Electronic address:

Polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are toxic contaminants that were produced and used in large quantities for their stability, inertness, and other desirable electrical, cooling, and lubricating properties. Due to their environmental persistence and improper disposal, these contaminants have become broadly distributed in the environment. This study examines the levels, composition, distribution, and potential sources of these compounds in surface soils and street dusts collected at 19 residential and industrial areas in Detroit, Michigan.
