Various biological processes are interconnected in plants. Transcription factors (TFs) often act as regulatory hubs to regulate plant growth and responses to stress by integrating various biological pathways. Despite extensive studies on TFs functions in various plant species, our understanding of the details of TFs regulation remains limited.

Novel therapeutic delivery systems and delivery methods to the inner ear are necessary to treat hearing loss and inner ear disorders. However, numerous barriers exist to therapeutic delivery into the bone-encased and immune-privileged environment of the inner ear and cochlea, which makes treating inner ear disorders challenging. Nanoparticles (NPs) are a type of therapeutic delivery system that can be engineered for multiple purposes, and posterior semicircular canal (PSCC) infusion is a method to directly deposit them into the cochlea.

The archaeal class is widely and abundantly distributed in anoxic habitats. Metagenomic studies have suggested that they are mixotrophic, capable of CO fixation and heterotrophic growth, and involved in acetogenesis and lignin degradation. We analyzed 35 metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs), including the first complete circularized MAG (cMAG) of the Bathy-6 subgroup, from the metagenomes of three full-scale pulp and paper mill anaerobic digesters and three laboratory methanogenic enrichment cultures maintained on pre-treated poplar.

This study reviewed the recovery of humic substances (HS) from anaerobic digestate of sludge as a potential fertilizer, focusing on the quantification of HS, the efficiency of HS recovery, and its interaction with pollutants. The potential pitfalls of current misunderstanding for HS quantification in sludge were pointed out. HS present in sludge showed potential to be used as a fertilizer, which solubilized insoluble phosphates for enhanced soil fertility.

Laser-ablated graphene electrodes modified with redox melanin-like film for redox capacitive sensing via the scavenging of nitrite ions.

Food Chem

December 2024

Sensors and Biosensors Group, Analytical Chemistry and Electrochemistry Lab (LR99ES15), University of Tunis El Manar, Tunis El Manar, 2092 Tunis, Tunisia. Electronic address:

Improper use and harmful effects of nitrite ions pose a significant risk to human health. To address this concern, the use of carbon-based materials for electrochemical sensing is regarded as one of the most promising detection tools for ensuring the quality of drinking water and food products. In this context, we developed laser-ablated graphene electrodes (LAGEs) by direct laser scribing on a polyimide substrate, which were subsequently modified by electrochemical deposition of a redox-active melanin-like film (MeLF/LAGEs).
