Within dominance hierarchies, individuals must interact in a rank-appropriate manner, thus behavior and its underlying neural mechanisms must change with social status. One such potential neural mechanism is arginine vasotocin (AVT), a nonapeptide which has been implicated in the regulation of dominance and aggression across vertebrate taxa. We investigated the relationship between social status, dominance-related behaviors, and vasotocin neuron counts in daffodil cichlids (Neolamprologus pulcher).

Numerous compounds involved in the regulation of the cardiovascular system are also engaged in the control of metabolism. This review gives a survey of literature showing that arginine vasopressin (AVP), which is an effective cardiovascular peptide, exerts several direct and indirect metabolic effects and may play the role of the link adjusting blood supply to metabolism of tissues. Secretion of AVP and activation of AVP receptors are regulated by changes in blood pressure and body fluid osmolality, hypoxia, hyperglycemia, oxidative stress, inflammation, and several metabolic hormones; moreover, AVP turnover is regulated by insulin.

Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the impact of arginine vasopressin (AVP) and angiotensin II (Ang II) on aquaporin 2 (AQP2) expression in M - 1 cells.
Methods: M - 1 cells were stimulated with desmopressin (dDAVP) and Ang II, followed by treatment with tolvaptan and losartan. The expression and protein levels of V2R, AT1R, AQP2, and p-S256AQP2 were measured via ELISA, western blotting, RT-qPCR, and immunofluorescence.

The organum vasculosum of the lamina terminalis (OVLT) is a forebrain circumventricular organ that modulates central autonomic control of arterial pressure and body fluid homeostasis. It has been implicated in the pathogenesis of rat models of hypertension that are driven by increased salt intake since OVLT lesion (OVLTx) attenuates both the DOCA-salt and angiotensin II-salt models. However, its contribution to the development of hypertension that is not salt-dependent, such as the 2 kidney, 1 clip (2K1C) renovascular model, is not clear.

The transcription factor MYT1L supports proper neuronal differentiation and maturation during brain development. MYT1L haploinsufficiency results in a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by intellectual disability, developmental delay, autism, behavioral disruptions, aggression, obesity and epilepsy. While MYT1L is expressed throughout the brain, how it supports proper neuronal function in distinct regions has not been assessed.
