Identifying the objects embedded in natural scenes relies on recurrent processing between lower and higher visual areas. How is cortical feedback information related to objects and scenes organised in lower visual areas? The spatial organisation of cortical feedback converging in early visual cortex during object and scene processing could be retinotopically specific as it is coded in V1, or object centred as coded in higher areas, or both. Visual search becomes slower with aging, particularly when targets are difficult to discriminate from distractors. Multiple distractor rejection processes may contribute independently to slower search times: dwelling on, skipping of, and revisiting of distractors, measurable by eye-tracking. The present study investigated how age affects each of the distractor rejection processes, and how these contribute to the final search times in difficult (inefficient) visual search.

Proximity labeling (PL) has emerged as a powerful technique for the in situ elucidation of biomolecular interaction networks. However, PL methods generally rely on single-biological-hierarchy control of spatial localization at the labeling site, which limits their application in multi-tiered biological systems. Here, we introduced another enzymatic reaction upstream of an enzyme-based PL reaction and targeted the two enzymes to markers indicating different biological hierarchies, establishing a two-level spatially localized proximity labeling (P2L) platform for in situ molecular measurement and manipulation.
