Bare silicon dimers on hydrogen-terminated Si(100) have two dangling bonds. These are atomically localized regions of high state density near to and within the bulk silicon band gap. We studied bare silicon dimers as monomeric units.

It has been widely assessed that very preterm children (<32 weeks gestational age) present language and memory impairments compared with full-term children. However, differences in their underlying semantic memory structure have not been studied yet. Embezzlement of entanglement refers to the counterintuitive possibility of extracting entangled quantum states from a reference state of an auxiliary system (the "embezzler") via local quantum operations while hardly perturbing the latter. We uncover a deep connection between the operational task of embezzling entanglement and the mathematical classification of von Neumann algebras. Our result implies that relativistic quantum fields are universal embezzlers: any entangled state of any dimension can be embezzled from them with arbitrary precision.

The phase separation that occurs in two-temperature mixtures, which are driven out of equilibrium at the local scale, has been thoroughly characterized, but much less is known about the depletion interactions that drive it. Using numerical simulations in dimension 2, we show that the depletion interactions extend beyond two particle diameters in dilute systems, as expected at equilibrium, and decay algebraically with an exponent -4. Solving for the N-particle distribution function in the stationary state, perturbatively in the interaction potential, we show that algebraic correlations with an exponent -2d arise from triplets of particles at different temperatures in spatial dimension d.

Secondary brain damageafter traumatic brain injury (TBI) involves oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, apoptosis, and necroptosis and can be reversed by understanding these molecular pathways. The objective of this study was to examine the impact of tasimelteon (Tasi) administration on brain injury through the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF-2)/heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and receptor-interacting protein kinase 1 (RIPK1)/receptor-interacting protein kinase 3 (RIPK3)/mixed lineage kinase domain-like (MLKL) pathways in rats with TBI. Thirty-two male Wistar albino rats weighing 300-350 g were randomly divided into four groups: the control group, trauma group, Tasi-1 group (trauma + 1 mg/kg Tasi intraperitoneally), and Tasi-10 group (trauma + 10 mg/kg Tasi intraperitoneally).
