The diagnosis of milk fever or hypocalcemia in lactating cows has a significant economic impact on the dairy industry. It is challenging to identify asymptomatic subclinical hypocalcemia (SCH) in transition dairy cows. Monitoring subclinical hypocalcemia in milk samples can expedite treatment and improve the health, productivity, and welfare of dairy cows.

Bistable soft jumper capable of fast response and high takeoff velocity.

In contrast with jumping robots made from rigid materials, soft jumpers composed of compliant and elastically deformable materials exhibit superior impact resistance and mechanically robust functionality. However, recent efforts to create stimuli-responsive jumpers from soft materials were limited in their response speed, takeoff velocity, and travel distance. Here, we report a magnetic-driven, ultrafast bistable soft jumper that exhibits good jumping capability (jumping more than 108 body heights with a takeoff velocity of more than 2 meters per second) and fast response time (less than 15 milliseconds) compared with previous soft jumping robots.

Introduction: Inhaled nitric oxide (INO) is a selective pulmonary vasodilator delivered from compressed gas cylinders filled to 2,200 psig (137.8 bar) with 800 ppm of NO in a balance of nitrogen. NO is currently FDA-approved for use in term or near-term infants with hypoxemia and signs of pulmonary hypertension in the absence of cardiac disease.

A simple-to-use, portable, and relatively inexpensive system for characterizing the chemical components of mainstream smoke from cannabis cigarettes was developed and tested by using commercial hemp cigarettes. The system is described, and its performance for reproducing actual user puff topographies is shown along with extensive chemical analysis data, including PAHs, carbonyls, and organic and elemental carbon, for a small set of initial samples. By using a solid-state flow meter and fast-response mass flow controller, the prototype can reproduce measured puff topography with excellent fidelity, which will allow users to accurately reproduce the actual inhalation patterns for various types of smoking products and consumers, and to collect samples of mainstream smoke without the need to bring test subjects or controlled substances into a laboratory.

pH and Cu ion concentration changes are linked to disorders like Alzheimer's and cancer. Rapid detection of pH and Cu ions is critical for public health and environmental concerns. The semi-salamo-type probe (E)-2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde O-(2-(aminooxy)ethyl) oxime (NSS) demonstrated substantial dual-functional performance, sensing pH change and Cu ions.
